View Full Version : Thinking of getting a 500. Charger advice?
I'm new to 6S so I'm thinking about getting a hyperion 610 Duo. Anyone else like this one or have preferences for a Trex 500 6S setup?
Thanks,

I have the Duo and I like it. It's not quite as nice as my CellPro 4S in my opinion, but once you learn the menus, it's quick and easy to use. It is especially nice having two independant chargers in one.

I have hyperion 610 Duo, but I'll put it in work this weekend , so no experience what so ever, but what I could tell you I did a lot of research untill I made my decision and got the duo, for the money you'll spend you get more, (Dual port, included Balancer and very fast charging rate...)
Hope it helped...

I like the Astro flight 109 it is a easy to use, but there is a downside you have to buy a separate power converter to use on a normal outlet

Bantam e-station 902 here. Their BC-6 or BC-8 is another fine charger.

The Cellpro 10s is very easy to use, and not too expensive at $189. If you decide to charge more cells in the future, it is a good choice to future proof yourself a bit. It is so easy to use!

I too like my Cellpro 10s built in balancer and 3C ready. I also have Hyperion 1210i which is nice for 12 cell packs but external balancers you have to hook up and buy.

I have a Bantam BC-6 and a Thunder Power 1010 and the Thunder Power is much better for the 6S packs, The BC-6 can only seem to maintain 2.2 amps, and if you balance it takes twice as long as the TP. The TP cost twice as much though, and you have to buy a seperate balancer the 210.

i think the BC6 would be a good choice. yet it doesnt go over 2.2 amps on a 6s pack (only rated at 50watts). but it does have a built in power inverter. :)

My vote is for the Thunder Power 610 , internal balancing , and accepts all different types of plugs....

I've used the AstroFlight 109 for a year or more. Solid, reliable. But I got a 610 Duo because of the ability to charge 2 at once (faster at the field). I'm loving it. It really is like having two chargers, plus the ability to 'look' at individual cells prior or after balancing has been sweet. Another cool feature is being able to set the charge capacity to less than 100%. Again a way to get back in the air faster (albeit with a reduced flight time)

the hyperion duo is what I have and I love it, charges 4 batteries an hour and has really nice features, it is expensive, but well worth it (270$)

The Hyperion Duo is very nice, and has some great features, though it is quite bulky, and expensive! Charging two seperate batts is a nice feature for those that have a qide range of lipos. Though I just bought two cellpro 10s's, and have the same functionality. The simple interface and the speed of charging is what sold me!

What about the e-station 902?? This way if you got into bigger batteries it could handle it. Does this balance like hyperion?

Got the Hyperion Duo and love it, you need good power supply.
The only thing with the Duo I do not like is that you can not discharge or cycle NiMh or NiCd batteries. It is made more for pure LiPo enthusiasts. For that reason I got the little TP610C, which makes for a good field charger. So now I have both and I think I am pretty much covered.
Check out this setup on the pictures on my other thread: http://www.helifreak.com/showthread.php?t=71398

If you are going to charge 6S packs, the e-Station BC-6 and TP 610 I would not recommend. They do not have enough power. The BC-6 is 50 watts and the TP610 is 80 watts.
What I would recommend is the e-Station BC6-10. This is a 200 watt charger, 10 amp charge rate. It is capable of charging a 6S 5000 pack @ about 9 amps, almost 2C. It is a full function charger including discharging ability.
The Hyperion 610iNet and 610Duo are also good chargers. Neither have any discharge capability which is sorely missed in the units. The Hyperion Duo is very unique, it is the only real choice for 2 pack charging.
Overall you won't go wrong with the Bantam or the Hyperion. Hyperions cost less than the Bantam and have less functionality. All depends on your needs.

I've got a couple of Orbit Microlader chargers (I think these are called the Luxury model now) with the PC interface that I've had for many years - back when we were scavenging Li-ion batteries from cell phones. No balancing, but I've got a couple of Lipo and A123 Astro Blinky balancers for that. A bit pricey, especially considering today's balancing chargers, but it does every chemistry, 1-11s lipo/A123, 1-30 cell NiCad/NiMh, and lead acid at up to 180W (6A max).. The upside, is that firmware is updatable via EEPROM, which is how I got the A123 support. The pro version has a higher cell count and ups the output to 8A, but is even more $$$.

TP-610 is fine for charging 6s packs for the 500, which was what the question was about.
To be quite frank, I doubt anyone's going to be buying a 600 electric now that the 500 is out, meaning a charger better than the TP-610 isn't required. It just doesn't make sense with the cost of the batteries for the 600e. My next heli after the 500 will be a 700n I think.
TP-610 = great charger.

I think that i'm going to buy two TP-610s.
I've already got two 1010c and 210vs and have been very happy with them. I do like the TP chargers and would recommend them.

I have two 610s and two 6s 2600 batteries. With a little cool time before i charge, i can fly about every 1.5 hours. i didnt like how hot they got so i made this cooler.
This charger setup is fast easy and keeps the packs perfecly balanced.

I've four 3s batteries and want to use 2 at a time in series. Which of these many chargers mentioned is the best to charge and balance two batteries, in a series, at the same time? I'll also look into buying 5s and 6s batteries. Thanks.

I have the TP 1010+210 which is great. I just got the Kong Power 6S charger which is 100W vs 80W for the TP 610. it was $20 more, but you also got a charge adapter (kraken they call it), software upgrade cable and an adapter to another kind of balance connector. So all-in it is cheaper than the TP 610 I think.
I have used it a couple times and it seems to work just fine. Has discharge and cycle functions as well.
Ordered it thru ReadyHeli and went with the option to get 2, 3S 2200 packs for $25 each with the combo deal. Also recommend the battery bridge ($4) if you are going to charge 2, 3S packs in series.
