Here is a datagraph from a flight I did today. This is with the Stock motor w/ 9T pinion, Stock ESC, Radix 325mm Blades and an 1800mah Lipo.
The heli still had LOTS of pop in the vertical. I could toss it around without a problem. I was able to perform loops, rolls, stationary flips, inverted punch-outs and just about anything else I threw at it without a problem.
Needless to say, I will be leaving the 9T on. This has made the Blade 400 very relaxing to fly. I do not feel like I have lost anything by dropping to the 9T from the 10T. I still have all the power I need and more for FFF and Intermediate 3D moves.
On a sad note, I had my very first servo failure in flight. I cannot really blame the servo. It was giving me "clues" it was not a happy being in a heli anymore. It has been through quite a few crashes, so it is my own fault really. I almost had it down safely, until a gust of wind blew it inverted. It was all over from there.

That is my same setup minus the batt I usually fly a 2100-2250 (gave my stock 1800 batt to Eugene)
I'm sure you've done other that flat 100 curve, no? how was that, or do you need flat 100 to do it all?
Very interested......I just may put a 9T in and see how I like it.

I did notice a slight difference between flying with the 1800 and 2250 lipos. They are about 30 grams different. But it is not anything that would change my mind on using the 9T pinion.
I have tried 100-95-90-95-100, 90 Flat and 100 Flat throttle curves. I seen no difference between the 90 Flat and 100 Flat. The Flat curves gave me a more consistant headspeed throughout my flight. So I will be sticking with the 100 Flat throttle Curve.
As long as I am running the Stock ESC, I will be using the 9T pinion. If/When I get a new ESC that has a Governor, I will go back to the 10T. This will give the ESC more overhead to play with. It is easier to regulate a headspeed with a governor. The way the ESC handles a Governor is not quite the same as using throttle curves I have found. Only reason I am posting this is because this is going to be my next step.

Please do post your results, I am definetly leaning to go towards a new ESC and I can see myself eventually migrating back to the 10t if I can keep it from stupid speed with the woodies.

I have a govenor on the 600 and not sure how to use it so I leave it off, I watch Finless' vids but they dont relate to mine at all. I just have on or off so I leave it off.
I flew my B400 at flat 75 for a while but Skigolfmike, said he noticed a bog in the motor (I couldnt hear it) so I went to 60-80-80-90-100. Well I will be watching your posts and try to grasp this whole thing and keep from going brain dead at the same time......have to admit this is way over my head but I am interested.
Guess, I should learn to fly and flip/loop first.

I think on the B400 the motor doesn't have enough power to spin the rotor much faster than 3000 no matter how you gear it. I even got a spare motor thinking I wore mine out, but it was the same. The only other issue with the motor might be the batteries. I have 2 stock 1800s and 2 TP 2100s. I can always get a little more headspeed out of the TP 2100s.
Now, to throw a monkey wrench into every one's thinking. The current train of thought out there is to run this size heli on 1300mAh 6S with a 1700-1900kV motor. Gearing is the same, power is the same and head speed is pretty much the same. However, amp draw gets cut in half, maybe even more. Lower amp draw is better for the batteries and speed control. It's how the OutRage works and I believe the Rave can also be setup for 6S. Food for thought.

Hi there
After reading advise from you guys I tried a 9T today........wow.......one on the best changes ive made to the B400 to date! Highly recommended to anyone considering. Im running 100 / 92.5 / 85 / 92.5 / 100 and the reduction in headspeed doesnt seem to have effected my basic 3D stuff.
Ive not flown in anger yet but punch out hardly seems effected.
Cheer guys

Ok so if I do try the 9T what is the easy way to get the motor out?
Or do you pull the pinion with the motor in place then adj for mesh?

Hi there
Im pretty sure you need to remove the motor I carnt see how you could do it without.
Cut tywrap around the speed controller and move to the side....
Turn the heli upsidedown and you should be able to see 2 screws holding the motor in place
Feed a scewdriver through...and undo the screws....disconnect the 3 motor wires and it should come out.
There is a little grub screw which holds the pinion onto the motor shaft...undo this....
On my motor the pinion came off with a little pull but others have had to use a pinion puller tool.
Refit new pinion....replace motor....
IMPORTANT...youll need to loosen off the 4 screw either side of the heli which secure the motor mounting plate and adjust the motor positon slightly closer to the main gear as the 9T is a little smaller than the 10T.
Hope this makes sense...
