Hey guys,

I just picked up my first ever heli and a whole bunch of other goodies. There are more to come from Tower Hobbies.

Here are the pics.

Thanks to all of you for helping me to select the parts.

...and are you planning to build straight through or actually get some sleep along the way? :D

Thanks to Frogbmth and TheBum, we decided yesterday to get the Futaba S9452s and I ordered them online last night.

I did get a set of wood blades and a set of normal tail boom just so that I use them to actually learn how to fly. Once I get better, I'll put all the carbon fiber stuff on it.

Any comments are appreciated.

Make sure that you pay close attention to your head speed with those wood blades. I started out using (and still use) the Mavrikk G4 CF blades: they're inexpensive ($55), they're very well balanced straight out of the package, they track very well, and I don't have to worry as much about head speed.

How do I do that?

You know, the real problem with me is that I like to learn things while actually getting involved with them. I try to get a general understanding of the theory, but I learn better by actually putting the theory to use. And this applies to my heli skills as well. I'm just learning. I read The Basics of RC Helis by Paul Tradelius, got an idea of what I'm getting myself into, got the G4, practiced a bit, and less than two weeks after all this, I bought myself a heli that is not particularly a begginer's heli. So please bare with me if I dont understand some of the terminology or techniques.

Thanks for your help man.

You'll either have to tach the main rotor and adjust your throttle curve downward or use a governor. For an initial throttle curve without a governor, try something like 0-25-40-INH-65 with a 40-INH-50-INH-100 pitch curve in Normal mode; based on sound, that throttle curve made my engine run about the same RPM as when governed at 1800.

I think the NSP comes with the Align gov? I used an optical tach to check various speeds against the predicted ones from channel gain in the manual, all were within 20RPM of the predicted headspeed.
