I have a Raptor 60 with a 70 in it and I think it might be time to change the starter bearings. When I try to start it it makes a screeching noise. Some times it spins fine no problem. Some times it just spins and doesn't seem to turn the engine over. Any one know what to look for to tell you when it's time to replace the bearings? Also would this be a good time to put a new clutch liner in? Yes I have checked the collar at the tom and the set screws are tight.

Sounds more like the one-way in the clutch to me.

I think Al is right. You may be able to salvage the clutch by putting a few drops of TriFlow or another light oil in the one-way.

I to would suspect the one way in the clutch. You might try cleaning it out a little to see if a little grit got into it. Otherwise I would do as Bob suggested and try oiling it to see if you can sqeeze a littel more life out of it. Good luck.

Thanks for the help. I took a few minutes and pulled the parts out to check. The shaft seems to be pretty chewed up were the set screws locate on it. The clutch seems to work fine if I put the shaft in it. and spin it. I have a bigger problem thought. Look in my gallery at the OS 70 engine. Three tanks from new and large piece missing from side of piston.

It even seemed to screw up my carburetor some how. Must have gotten some junk in it. I called Hobby services though at around 8:00 pm and they were going to send me a new piston out next day but I told them I would send them the engine to look at and then they could fix it.

Mat, looks like a couple too many lean runs.

Al I would have thought the same thing but I ran it out of fuel once just after the 3 rd tank because I was going home 4 th tank and this. Do you think that 1 lean moment would do this ? I guess any thing is possible though. Never showed any thing but lots of smoke and after each flight I could stick my tongue on the back plate if I wanted to, it was that cool. I tacked it at the field and it was only turning 1600 rmps on the head so I know I could have gone leaner on it. maybe it was that one time were I ran it out of fuel.

I'm thinking it was lean for more than a couple seconds. Smoke is really not a good indicator of mixture. I'm also not a real fan of that OS70. The 61WC in my opinion, is a better motor. The YS61 will slap that OS70 silly. I would never by one, and would sell if I got one in trade.

I'm with Al on the OS 70. I would sell one also in any situation. My 61 WC was a flawless running engine from day one. It ran like a top, right up until I replaced it with a YS 80. And from here on out it is YS all the way for me. I've got a killer running 61 WC I will sell ya if you want it. :D

Thanks BB but I had two of them and sold them both. Should have keep them. I'm going to be stubborn and try the 70. I ordered a MP II for it and think it will help the engine breath a little better. If nothing else works. I might be forced to sell and look at the YS.
Matt, if it makes you feel any better I've been running my 70 for a while now and I like it much better than my 61WC. I was constantly chasing the tuning with the 61 and it eventually burned up. With the 70 it tuned right up for me, no problems. I've put close to 5 gallons through it since Mid December and it's still running decent. The 61 is probably a good engine too and I just had bad luck with it, so now I'm bitter towards them. There's bound to be manufacturing defects with any product. I just bought a second R60 with a 61WC in it, I'm selling the engine, putting a 90 in it's place(probably ys) :)

Thanks for the good thoughts. I just got my second 70 in the heli today and the MP II to go with it. Going to try it out Saturday and see how it all works.
