While I'm waiting for the 400 to come out I'm trying to put together all the running gear I will need so I'll have everything when the kit arrives. I'm trying to find a good digital, metal gear servo to use on the swash. The JR 8717s were recomended to me but they are more money than I want to spend and they seem a bit overkill for the 400. R/C Heli mag used them on .90 size nitro. I was thinking maybe the JR DS3421 that was recomended for the logo 10 3D since the 400 has the same frames and all. I do want something with metal gears though since I don't want to rebuild servos after every crash. Any ideas? I'd like to keep them under $80 each and would like them to be pretty fast and center well also. I'd like to set this heli up nice without breaking the bank. Any ideas would greatly be appreciated.

Good ol' 9650 Futabas, they center nice and are reliable, all imho of course.

Only problem with those are they plastic gears and the guy at the hobby shop says they will strip if you crash. I'd rather pay a little more and get metal gears so I don't have to rebuild them after every crash. Has anyone tried theFutaba S9452 http://www.espritmodel.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=4778
specs look pretty good but I was wondering if anyone has used them?

JR Z3650, its 3400G with MG. I will swap them from my trex 500 to the logo 400 and put back the Hitec HS-5245 MG on the rex.

True they will and can strip, each to their own but I like nice centering servos that work well in flight is all, I do not mind a rebuild cause most every time I do crash it is a re kit anyways, lol.

At least on Mikados the servos are super easy to remove in a crash should you need to replace gears. Replacing the grears themselves is a 10 minute job. Very easy really.

I agree with Shawn on this one. 9650's is what i'd use if I was putting a logo together on a budget.

The 3400s with metal gears would work great but they are pricier and the original poster seemed to not want to spend the $$ the 3400s would cost.

Haha 8717s on a 400 would be insane overkill. Shoot they are overkill on my 500. There'd be a pretty good weight hit putting those servos in a L400. BruceW and I run pretty similar setups in our 500s with the exception of cyclic servos. I'm running 8717s and he's running the BLS451. We figured there is close to a 1/4 pound difference in the AUW of our birds and it's mostly due to the servos.

Heheheh, yeah those 8717's have lead lined cases I think.....

So the 400 will be out this June...

Is it going to be a whole new design??, or will it use alot of the same parts as the 500/600, although that would be tough...

I haven't seen it for sale anywhere in the USA yet.

The JR Z3650s look pretty good. How would they compare to the Futaba S9452? It looks like the JR Z3650 might be perfect since they are about $75 and the Futabas are $80 a piece. The JRs are faster but the Futabas have more torque. If the JRs have enough torque for the 400 I'll probably go with those. Any one have an opinion on this? Thanks again guys.

Assuming you have enough torque to move the swash in all conditions.....I would imagine the torque from any standard servo would be plenty..... go for speed.

What retailer do you have your 400 on order with?

I'm gonna get it from Espritmodel. I try to buy most of my stuff from them since they are local to me and really help me every time I need it . I actually went there today but they were closed because of a show in North Carolina so I had to go to a Hobby Town USA to get T-Rex parts :(.

Yes I use esprit all the time, great retailer. But they don't list the 400 on their website yet. Do you have yours ordered, or are you just planning on picking it up when it comes in?

I was planning on talking to them about it today but they were closed. I'll see if they'll take a deposit so I can get one from the first shipment. Probably talk to them about it this week. I know when the 500 and 600 came out they did preorders but am not sure if they'll do them this time. I guess I'll find out this week. I'm really wanting one though. I need a bigger heli. I crashed my T-Rex today because I was trying to fly in too strong of a wind for it:Slap I wasn't even gonna try to fly today but I really wanted to get some flying in since I was off work. Anyways I can't wait.

I put a down payment for one of the first L400 from Esprit. So I guess you could say I have one on oder?

My setup is going to be:

9650s cyclic
9257 tail
GY401
CC BEC
Phoenix 60
Hacker A40-10S
Evo 25 5S 3700
AR6200

I also have the upgraded thrust bearing tail rotor hub, alum motor mount, CF tail case and CF tail servo mount.

I have everything new and here except for the Evo lipo and the heli.

imo ! the servo space in the frame is going to be the same size as the logo10, so a 9257 isnt going to be a straight fit , unless boom mounted . I also dont think a 9257 is going to be a great choice for this size heli, it will work but how well ?

i have a logo 10 running 470mm blades , i have tried 425mm blades which are great but the hacker c50 is a little big for this heli, hence the bigger blades. I would seriously consider a 'better' gyro and tail combo ...

The trex 500 guys are using 9257s. Not sure how long you have been flying, but the tail servos available for 50-90 size helis used to be in the 30 ounce range 4 years ago. They will work just fine in a 425mm heli. I posted above that I have the CF boom mount already.

I found the specs for the 9253 which everyone used before the 9254 with the GY401 in 30 and 50 size helis, it was .28 oz. and .08 speed. The same specs as the 9257. I have a 9254, but would rather keep the heli lighter if possible.

I'm going to boom mount the 9257 and if it doesn't work very well, then I'll swap in the 9254.
