I wasn't going to post anything about this but I thought oh what the heck. I can't have the tail of my shirt hung up on the wall glorifying my first solo so this is the next best thing I suppose.

After a lot of sim time and careful preparation, I flew my Trex 450 for the first time today. A bit gingerly at first as I got used to how it comes off the ground, but then I was able to hover in a relatively small (5 ft maybe) circle about a foot or two off the ground for maybe a minute. Set it down, did it again, lathered, rinsed, repeated. Cool!

What I shouldn't tell you though is that since today was the day I'd decided I was going to fly it but the wind was just howling outside, this was done in my 2-car garage...

Maybe tomorrow the winds will be calm and I'll actually fly it outside.

Congrats! You'll find that if you get it about 3 feet above the ground it will hover more smoothly and be easier to control. Also, getting it out of an enclosed space will help too. Air currents set up by the heli and contained by the garage walls can create turbulence that can toss the heli about a bit.

Great job bro! It's an awesome feeling eh?

Oh, and don't worry about the "safety Nazi's" if/when they come! When I was learning a few years back in the winter, I flew in my 2-car garage. There are a TON of people that use their garage....it's not like we are doing flips and loops. It's funny when I hear people say how irresponsible that is....heck, I skydive......over people! OMG ;)

Good luck in your progression!
