OK, finally, my helis have arrived. Today, I tried to fit the Eagle Tree. Can you look at these images, and see if this would be OK. Panel on the right.. next to AR7000 satilite RX.. I haven't found a way to fix the optical eye yet.. Can I super glue it to the frame??

Also, the battery temps.. are they placed OK?

Looks like like it shold work....stick a piece of velcro on the frame and velcrow the sensor on the frame.....or mount it on a small plate and velcrow that.....

it doesn't need to be super strong...

Hi Cralis,

I used double sided mounting tape to secure the optical sensor. My first position is exactly were yours is hanging - facing down onto the gear on the outside of the frame. I found that outside in the sunlight the tach readings were erratic or wouldn't work at all. I have Know mounted it in the same way just inside the frame out of the sun a bit. It works better but can still be erratic. I'll be interested to know how reliable yours turns out.
There has been discussion on the ET forums about this problem & it is known to them. I haven't seen a post yet that resolves the problem fully.

Cheers
Graeme

Thanks guys.
Maybe the brushless sensor would be the best solution then?
A mate looked at my setup last night, and (unrelated to the ET) we managed to blow the BEC, because I'm converting to a 'no-RX -pack' setup, and the Gaui BEC didn't like 22V or 6S.. hehe.. So, a spark and some smoke was a good indication to the problem.

Anyway, ordering the CC BEC, and once I have that, I'll test my current ET setup, and tell you the outcome. A solution for the mounting will be to drill a small hole (for a cable tie) in the frame to allow the sensor to be mounted..

Even with Esc - BEC you should use a small puffer battery otherwise if there's something wrong with your Esc your heli will come down without control. One of the hurris here had that with an 80A Jazz. When having extreme peaks the BEC just didn't have enough current. A small (something around 30mAh) 4-Cell NiMH puffer battery solved those issues. It's a little bit more work because you have to cycle-load the battery from time to time but at least worth a thought. If you're not flying that hard it's maybe not an issue for you.
About castle creation... what I remember the Phoenix comes with BEC but that BEC only works up to 3 cells. So this isn't an option at all. The high voltages series doesn't even have one...
If you want to be on the safe side the new Jive series has a BEC with 5A continuous and 15A peak for up to 12 cells. But this Esc is really expensive...
