Hey guys does anyone know if the Scorpion Brushless Motor (1210 KV) http://www.readyheli.com/Scorpion_Brushless_Motor_for_TREX_500_1210_KV_p/hk-3026-1210.htm will fit in the Hurricane 500 without mods
Also anyone trying the GAUI1500W-kv1100 motor? How is it? http://www.readyheli.com/855502_GAUI_Hurricane_550_Brushless_Motor_1500W_k_ p/855502.htm

The Gaui 1,5kW motor is used in nearly all Hurricane550 sets. It has a lot of power but consumption is way too high. Even one of those Z30s uses much less. Here in the German room the Hurricane 500 is bundled with the 1,5kW Gaui Motor which has a wider diameter compared to the Scorpion HK3026. So it would fit...

Haven't heard really great things about the Scorpions.....vs a Z20. I would imagine it is probably equal so fo rhte price it wouild be a good alternative to the stock motor.....
not sure where the power range is but there is a thread for the scorpion maybe more info in there.

I have used the scorpion 3026-1000kv it has a lot of power, however it will run hot and destroy itself. Its great on 425 blade but IMHO the 500mm to 550mm blades are too much for it. Tried running it low as well and still I could not keep the temperature down. If your looking for a good motor a Z20 for mild 3D or a Z30 for very good 3D. Currently back on Z30 and have geared for longer flights but still have the option by changing pinion or first gear if I want be crazy.

Interesting, I am running the Scorpion 1000kv on 8s A123 and it runs very cool, after 3 or 4 flights I can easily hold the motor, i am running the stock 50 amp esc and 21t pinion with revco gearing? on 6s lipo it is underpowerd with my gearing but I have flown 6s lipo as well. I can stretch it to 5 minute flights, but at 5 minutes you better be on the ground or close, depending on how hard I fly it!

I am running the Gaui 1.5KW upgrade motor and it is a power hog. I get 4:30 flights with FlightPower 3200 Evo30s. 2300-2400mAh put back in. I have tremendous power while it lasts though. The Gaui motor also runs hot, typical is 150*+F at the end of a flight. batteries are about 125*.
Gearing is 22/68 w/ 20T OWB, 500mm RCP II CF blades, 2300 rpm on 100-80-100 curve and 2400 on 100 flat.
I can't speak to the Scorpion motors since I haven't tried one yet. If I did, the 1210kV would be what I would try. I could run the same head speed with a 20T pinion.

I'll replace my Gaui 1,5kW motor soon with a Scorpion motor. I'll try the 1600kV version...
The 1210kV version seams a little bit too weak. Have a look there:
http://www.rc-heli-fan.org/media.php?mode=play&id=551
The 1600kV version was logged with 1,6KW... seams to be enough power.

I suggest the 1400kv, http://www.readyheli.com/Scorpion_Brushless_Motor_for_TREX_500_1400_KV_p/hk-3026-1400.htm
It's rated 1680W max continuous power, is the highest among the 3026 series.

does anyone have any eagle tree data for these motors? Are they more efficient than a Z30? or are they comparable to a Z20? Price wise they are a good deal, but where do they stand on the power and power consumption chart.
I'm running a Z20 on my plastic frame and would like to have a little more power for my CF 550...so is it better to get the Z30 for more power or would the Scorpion fit the bill and use less amps?
Anyone have a good comparison of the Z30 and the Scorpion....???

from the people ive talked to at readyheli they said none of these motors have the power as the z30 because their more for the trex 500... but the z30 has like 90 somethin efficiency so thats pretty hard to beat lol
From the video posted by worldofmaya, it seems the motor bogged a lot, no way come near to Z30a, not sure about Z20a.
I don't think going to try it, unless someone has better setup that has much better performance (may be just near to Z30a) to share it here.

That's what I've said... the 1210 is a little bit weak for an Hurri... the 1600kV version seams okay. There're logs in a German forum with up to 1600KW. The 1400kV version seams to consume need much more power. Have a look at the no-load current.
Have a look at the last log at the bottom of the following link -> http://www.rc-heli-fan.org/ftopic42229.html

I have tried the Z20 980, Z30 1100 and then Scorpion 1000kv. I like the Z30 the best, you can gear it to the same HS as the Z20 and get nearly the same flight time.

How is this combo for 3D?????
The Tonic-X Z30A 1110KV motor (is this the "Z30" everyone is talking about?)
http://www.helidirect.com/product_info.php?cPath=44_386&products_id=6013
and the Gaui 75A ESC

well the z30 is awesome for 3d... tried it out today finally :).. at 2500 rpm, but due to recent problems with the gaui programming i would just get the align 75amp esc... really easy to program and its 80 bucks at grandrc

yea i run the z30 on the 50t front and 15t pinon and zippy 3300s giving me 2470 headspeed today... after 5 and a half min of hard flight everything was just a little warm but still really good since it was 94 degrees outside

Hy, im new and a guy from germany!
i want to get a hurricane from flying hobby. but i have a few questions!!
i have heared nothing good about the stock motor in my set. it is the gaui 1100kv motor!
i have talked to mr. fung and he said that is no problem to upgrade the motor, but i donŽt know what one!!
my problem is that i want to use my lipoŽs from the t-rex450 till i can buy some better ones!!
the lipoŽs are 3s 2200mAh 25C!! i have 6 pieces of them!
iŽam thinking about skorpion and z30a! or does anyone known some better one??
and also i donŽt know is what pinoins and gear and so i must use for the motor i choose to run it best!
sorry for mistakes or something, but my english is not really good!
thank you for your help!
EDIT:
iŽam thinking about these motors:
-Scorpion Brushless Motor HK3026 KV1600 (http://flying-hobby.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=18_76&products_id=2915)
-Scorpion Brushless Motor HK3026 KV1400 (http://flying-hobby.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=18_76&products_id=2914)

If you want to use your Trex packs (and care for them), you're better off getting yourself a Z20A-980Kv with 15T pinion and 50T 1st gear. High performance motors draw high currents and you flight time will suffer as will your Lipo packs.
Don't expect long flight times with high performance motors on just to 2200mAh packs. If that what you want you should aim for low current and moderate head speeds (~1900rpm). Otherwise you'll be stuck at 3-4 mins flight time.

whats with the power of this motor??
what can i do with this motor?? Light 3D??
at the moment i just flying around but my skills get better and better!
I also think about this motor, but i donŽt know if the power ist enough!
wich pinion and 1st gear is includet in the stock pack from the Hurricane 550CF??
What can i get for flight times with this setup you said??

It's quite simple. If you want blazing performance; go with an Z30 at cost of flight time. You only have approx 55Wh of power in your batteries and you can spend that on loads of power in a short time or balanced power in a bit more time.
The Z20 980Kv (http://flying-hobby.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=1018) is a very nice ballance between the right amount power and current consuption. Loads of people use it for 3D, if you're into hard 3D then you're probably better of with a Z30, but if you're that good, you're probably not asking these questions here ;)
I think the stock package has a 14T pinion and 42T second gear, not sure. My plastic did.
From what I read here it looks that a Z20 geared at ~1900rpm will give you 6-7 mins of flight. My wrong geared Z20 (14&42) only lasted 4 mins with extremly hot batteries (~60 deg celcius). I changed the gears to 15/50 which I still have to try out.

the stock gearing is 14/42 I should be maidening mine today with a 14/50 z20-980 combo

if you want 3d go with the z30... the scorpions dont have enough power for the hurricane because they are designed for the trex 500

1.z20a can output 1200W (countiune) 1500W(10 sec. Max)
2.Hard 3D is no problem, the motor temp still cool than stock motor(fly in normal mode).
3.1 st gear just only 42T form stock, other gear set you have buy it.
4.Power of Z20A is enough for your bird and your fly style.
5.4~5 min, use cap. over 3300mah is better for your lipo
6. My Hurricane 550 seting
Z20A 980KV+15T+42T+19T+61T+20T
Hobbywing 80A (ESC) + 2200mah 3S1P*4(same as 6S2P)
JETI 10A(BEC)+2200mah 2S1P
FK 550mm GF main blade
Plastic fram+Alu head set
Flight time : 8 min(normal) 6 min(Idel 1)
Fly weight : 2.6kg
Fly style like Trex-450

thanks a lot!
i think i will get the z20 980kv and when my skills get better and i want to fly hard 3d i will look for a new motor!
The flight time with the Z20 sounds really good to me!
What pinion and gears must i use to get the best performance for the motor?
