So I've had my first crash with my belt cp; I went ahead and got a pair of those Align 325 pro blades people have been raving about. I was hovering for the first time with the pro blades, I gave very little elevator up and BLAM , heli wrapped itself up in the air and landed on its back. Upon inspecting the wreck I found that the boom had been struck by the main blades. Damaged parts: tail boom, align 325 blades (both in one piece, only chipped), bent feather shaft, bent main shaft, main gear teeth gone, horizontal stabilizer fin, boom supports, tail box, bent tail drive shaft, belt got chipped when boom broke and one dead servo. :arggg::arggg:

I figured I had too much cyclic for the 325 blades, just finished rebuilding the heli so I decided to check the cyclic; 6 degrees only! So what's the max for 325 blades then? Or could it have been something else?

Regardless, I'm sticking to 315 length from now on...

Did we mention the shimms? :DOH

That does sound really strange - there should be no danger of boom strike unless you land it really hard or have the blades way too loose in the holders. My gut instinct would be to call the boom strike a symptom instead of the cause... although I can't think of anything that could cause such a catastrophic failure with very little cyclic input. Very sorry to hear of the carnage. Sounds like one of those times you wish you had a video camera running. :(

Nice to see you here, by the way - didn't notice earlier you were registered on Helifreak too.

I have 7 degrees on my belt running 325's for a very long time now, never ever a boom strike while flying, boom strikes are a thing of bad landings/crashes. doubt even if you didnt put the shims it should strike. Never tried so i dunno :)

I have no idea what it could be  Everything is set up perfectly both now and before the crash. Guess I'll just have to wait and see if it happends again.

Yeah nice to be here :), I registered on heliguy first but this place seems more complete.

Oh yeah I had the shimms in, I even had to file the blades down a bit because the blades were too tight before tightening the screw.

What a lovely thing to say man:hug:

Heliguy didn't want us, thought were one sandwich short of a picnic I think:lol::lol:

How about that Guys!!

I Have 325's on for over a month now without any problems, havn't measured the cyclic pitch but it is as much as the head will allow there is no way they will hit the boom without extreme provocation certainly not with 'very little up elevator'.

(My heli does have a CopterX head)

As Mika sayes it sounds like your spacers arn't thick enough, are the blades gripped at all by the blade holders.
