hi all,

i havent used idle up yet, i have flown in some resonably windy conditions trying to get used to it. as the other post states the cp is very light and can get lifted very easily followed by loss of control.
if i use idle up will this help in windy conditions?
thanks

Idle up is absolutely essential in gusty winds. You need to keep the headspeed up, and both collective and cyclic as responsive as you can... in other words, flick to idle as soon as you take off. I have no plans to go inverted, but I'll gladly pay the small price in flight time for the added controllability.

All you need is Idle up and a readiness to use the collective far more than in still weather
I am actually amazed how well my belt handles the wind, my flying field is surrounded by trees and has some fascinating turbulence when its windy.

....fascinating turbulence when its windy....

:) I've used a lot of words for turbulence where I fly. Fascinating has never been one of them.

Also - I've recently learned that when in idle up, my Belt goes down even faster than it goes up! :WOW

I have 3 tips for flying in the wind....'

1.) Use Idle up (high head speed)
2.) Use short blades (I use 315 on my T-Rex )
3.) Use Flybar weights (one set, all the way out)

Hi there Wizard hows the crusty neigbour:YeaBaby:

Hey Ian!

Noticed the coppers at his house last night. Wasn't about me tho', I've been a goood boy lately. :fly

He must be giving someone else a hard time.

Hello Joe
May I ask are you a belt cp flyer ?

No I am not. But.....my points on flying in the wind arn't heli specific. Thats why I noted I fly 315s on the T-Rex. I'm not sure what the blade sizes are for the Belt CP.

I agree totally. the belt CP head speed is pretty low in normal mode - Idle up is a must. The shorter blades also help, but i personaly wasnt a fan of flybar weights. It does make it more stable but i felt it took all the feel out of what the the wind was doing. I guess thats personal preference though.

Thats why I run the weights. I am looking for the wind to have a minimal effect. I use them to mimic a larger heli. Your right...it's all about personal preference.

I have flown the flybar weights an ballast but the belt isn't so forgiving like the rex, I stopped trying.
Our local expert in "windsurfing" (Dierwolf) has more experience in this matter.

I feel ya barks! lol. I'm waiting for my parts to arrive so I can patch up this baby and try some idle up. I need to find out where to buy the flybar weights
