Hello, I crashed my raptor 30 v2, I have a 30 size muffler revolution in that, almost new!, anyway, what happened is that because of the crash, one of the two "holes" with coils of the muffler (I don't know how you call them) was damaged INSIDE (the "hears" are not neither broken nor cracked, just damaged inside) so, the bolt doesn't tight the muffler to the engine anymore (in one of the sides).... Normally I CAN'T put a nut because of the design of the muffler doesn't allow to put it (if you people have something similar you will know of what I am talking about). Can I just grind a bit the muffler's base in order to put a nut to tight the muffler???? would it work?? or I am lost and I haveto get another muffler???
Thanks a lot

What a bummer.
If I understand you correctly, the face of the muffler that seats against the engine is intact and flat but one of the threads that accept the muffler screw is damaged?
If that's the case, the first thing you mentioned (longer fastener with a nut on the back side) would be the first choice. But you already said that won't work with that muffler. I have a Revo for my 50 which this concept would work with a little light dremel work to create a large enough space for the nut as well as flatten the area.
The other thing you mentioned (grind a little bit of the mufflers base to put a nut) would work if that's what I was talking about above. Again, that requires a longer fastener.
It's possible, if the threads aren't damaged completely, to chase the threads with the appropriate sized tap. Chances are though, that if the fastener threaded in and doesn't get tight (stripped) that you won't have much luck doing this.
You might be able to just use a longer fastener if the original ones didn't thread completely through the muffler flange. I kind of doubt that would hold up for very long though.
Another option, not much talked about, is to install a helicoil where the damaged threads are. This requires enough material around the threads to install the larger diameter helicoil, as well as the right size helicoil, a special tap for the helicoil, the right size drill bit for the tap, and to do it properly, a drill press or at the very least, a jig to assure that you drill perpendicular to the mufflers mounting face. Due to the size of the muffler flange, cost and skill required, many people don't go down this path.
Yet another option would be to fill in the threads with a metal filling compound like JB Weld and re-drill and tap. Again, this would require the right size tap, drill, and fixturing.
If you can't use the longer screw with a nut (and some dremeling), your best bet is to buy a new muffler. The Revo pipe is inexpensive, or this may be the perfect opportunity to buy a better pipe.
Good luck.

Hello, thanks for answering, this is exactly what happened, the muffler in general is new, it was the threads that were damaged during the crash, one of them. Before ordering a new muffler I am gonna try to dremel and put nuts. I needed to know if the nuts would hold vibration and heat, according to what you said, they should I think. I am gonna give it a try, thanks! I will do it just in one side though because the other thread is ok, if anyone thinks the nut won`t hold, please, let me know..... thanks again forjer!

You might be able to re-tap it. That will fix the threads in the hole

I don't have the tools to re-tap, I just have a dremel to make some space on the muffler's surface and fit the nut, I'll put the nut with read threadlock and I'll tight all what I can... what do you think guys????
