View Full Version : Do I Need a Main Rotor Hub Pin?

I got a used (read: crashed) Raptor 30 V2 a couple months ago. I rebuilt it and have about 40 flights on it. Not long ago, I bumped it to a 50. Flies pretty good.

This morning I decided to upgrade the dampeners to the 80-duro reds and move the links out on the mixers. When doing the dampeners, I realized that there was no main rotor hub pin (29). So after digging around through the miscellaneous spare parts, I find two of 'em. Sweet. I slid one in and tried to install the feathering shaft...no go. The hole in the pin is too small for the spindle. So...grab the other and test fit the spindle...fit the hole nicely. So I try to slide the pin into the main rotor hub, and it won't go...the pin diameter is larger than the hole in the hub!

What's the deal? What does the pin really do? Just keep the spindle from loading too hard on both grips' bearings and dampeners at once? What if I just keep flying without it?

You won't hurt anything without it. Some people were taking them out on purpose though having flown it both ways I can't tell a difference.

Which head do you have, the stock TT 50V2 head?

I'm not sure...the original one from the 30 kit was damaged and this one came with it. It's plastic so it's probably an original replacement.

The deal? Likely you have a V-1 head block with a V-2 spindle

Hmm...you could be on to something there.

What else changed with the headblock from V1 to V2? Anything worth upgrading for?
