i'm using the stock E550 set up with the ripper motor and ace speed control. are we limited to stick packs? flight power makes a 3700 mah 6S1P, but i can't seem to find anything else that fits.

i'm not interested in a123 packs. lipos only please

I have been flying mine with a flightpower 3700 25c pack and it's fine. I hit it pretty hard for 6 mins and I put 2900 mha's back every time. It's lighter and you can feel the difference between it and the 4900 fp pack that I also use. Funny thing , when I fly with the 4900 pack it takes about 3200mha's to recharge it. The extra weight has got to be the reason.
BTW I think this is a very often over looked helicopter. I find the build quality to be super and it flys very solid. It will climb like a 50 and flip and pop like a nitro. Then it autos like a feather. I LIKE mine. TimT

thanks tim. are those the stick packs you are using? are those the only ones that i should get for this heli? i know there are kits for the frame to have the option to use brick style packs.

Most brick style packs fit! I use brick style polyquest packs 6S 5000MAH, search E550 battery tray size in yahoo and there is a page with the exact dimensions!

No stick packs here. I have to remove the side screws on the bottom plate before I can slide the 4900 in. I had that pack from my swift. I am on a waiting list for some packs from HK. Hobbycity has zippy packs 5000 mha for $134.00 . I can't recomend them yet but for the money I'm willing to try. 30 C and warranty. I just got this kit last week. I wasn't going to invest in batteries unless I liked the flight. I love it and have now shopped for a good size. The helidirect page has their new brand too. lots of fun in this hobby. TimT

Hey guys,

I'm still trying to decide between the Hurricane H550 XES PRO SE or the TT E550 Raptor.

If I go with the Raptor, I was thinking about using two of these:

instead of a single 6s pack. This will enable me to charge them with my Cellpro 4s chargers instead of having to buy a 10s charger.

I'm just doing basic flight (no 3D). Would this fly 8-10 minutes with 3300's or would I really need 5000mAh packs?

I'm also not interested in A123's at this time.

You wont get 8-10 min with 3300's. More like 5-7 to be safe.

Also don't worry about damaging packs in a crash and thinking 2 packs is better, the frames protect it very well, i have ploughed in several times destroying everything except for all the electronics!

helicraze,

While I'd like 8-10 minutes, I think I can live with 5-7 minutes from 3300's for now. I can always get bigger batteries next year.

I will have to check out the FP 3700's that Tim's talking about.

Now, if I get one 6s pack I'll need a new balancing charger. Two 3s and I can use the two 4s cellpro chargers I already have. That is the main reason for wanting (2) 3s packs.
