View Full Version : Belt CP - "Clicking" sound when I spin the main rotor

Hello everyone,

In my Belt CP, I noticed a "clicking" sound whenever I spin the main motor manually. I could not find where it is coming from. I was looking at the tail driven gear and then at the main gear. They both looked fine to me. I crashed about 4 weeks ago and I have replaced all the damaged parts, balanced the new blades, trimmed and corrected the pitch. Perhaps, I'm still missing something. I read in another thread with the similar "clicking" sound. He mentioned that in his case the cause of that are some missing screws to where the tail gear is.

Perhaps, anybody has an idea as to where the problem is.

Thanks a lot,

I just had the exact same problem on a Trex 450 I crashed. It turned out to be the "front belt drive" bearings. Really weird

Hi guy's
If you can, find out at what frequency the clicking sound is, I mean every gear is turning in a different rotation speed, i. e. motor x 14 = main gear auto gear x 5 = tail belt , this way you can get closer to the source of the sound

Thanks guys for the info. I will check on the tail drive and main drive bearings. The single "clicking" sound is coming stronger between the main gear and the tail drive gear. Both gears look okay. To locate which part of the gear the sound comes from I put an electrical tape on both sides of the blade. One red and the other blue. Then I spin the main rotor manually. I noticed that the single "click" sound appears when the red taped blade is nearly passing the tail boom. I will try removing the main gear, check and then re-tighten the bolt. I hope this works.

Thanks again

the clicking sound usually comes from a 1/2 stripped tooth on the main gear,

One mine, the culprit was that little idler on the tail assembly, the one on the top. One drop of oil made it get quiet.

Hi guys,

So sorry I have been out of touch for a while. Anyway, just for the update regarding the "clicking" problem in my previous post DierWolf was right. I found 2 small 1/2 stripped teeth on my main gear that was causing the sound. I replaced it though I had some struggle removing and installing the one-way bearing to the new main gear. After installation its a miracle. The sound suddenly disappeared.

By the way, I have already upgraded to a CNC head and tail setup. There is really a big difference compared to the stock ones. The flight is very smooth and more controllable.

Thanks for all your help
