I just want to make it clear that Tallahassee, FL is a good solid three hours away from Jacksonville, FL. No wonder they won't even seat us at the convention. :-)

The vids are great so far Bob!

I really hate to get involved in these types of "discussions" (not including my smartass comments) but i must in this case as i see it all too often. While Bob's vids have done a great service not only to myself but the hobby itself. Bob is human and thus is imperfect, and i totally agree with pointing out the mistakes. But the method of pointing out the mistakes is the difference between being helpful and being a jerk. I think its G MAN's duty as a HF to provide the most accurate information i just think he went about it the wrong way thats all.

On the other issue of Bob getting stuff for free. I see ALL the time people whining about Bob getting stuff for free for doing the build videos on them, and then its always followed by "i could do build vids". Its very easy to say something its a whole different thing to actually DO the work. Bob's early vids were on his own dime so whats preventing you from doing such a service for this hobby ? Do you have to do build vids in contest with Bob ? No you dont have to but atleast help out on the forums.

Well said, Capi. On this point:

I have thought on occasion to try it myself, concerning setup options and such for FAI birds, radio programming, etc...but to do it now would only get me labled a Finless Copy-Cat by the masses. I believe a lot of others might think the same, and thus Bob is now on his own, for better or worse.

I haven't seen many of his videos personally, but those I have seen are pretty good. He does a good job of keeping the "UUMs" to a minimum  I just can't sit and watch two hands build a heli on TV, personally. I have been watching two hands build helis for 20 years now, in living color. ;)

ErichF yeah you prolly would by the people who don't know who you are (and me, but i just dont like you :) ). If you do vids and your a known name i think it would be less of an issue. But videos arn't the only way to help out.

I think i've been building long enough now that i don't need to watch build vids either BUT i do like getting to see the components that are part of the kits.

That's a very good point, actually. It's good to see how some components are made before being stuffed into an assembly, ie, the sprague clutch of the Aurora.

It's different when someone is humble and tactful. G_MAN is clearly jealous of Bob and is trashing his helpfulness.

I remember when Bob first started putting out videos... and they were not backed by big manufactures! Loctite 101, Blade Tracking 101, etc etc etc... Manufactures saw his home made videos as very helpful and informative and would have stupid to not use him as a advertising outlet. Let's think about this.... The manufacture gets their product reviewed and fingered, Bob gets to keep the product and we gain a shit load of knowledge without it costing you or me a dime. This is a win win situation for all of us!

I hope I don't over step my boundaries when I say this, but Bob's late mother was a school teacher for many many many years. Bob has an ability to teach that was given to him from his mother. She passed that on to him and in many ways she still lives through his ability to teach us. I have a lot of respect for that and others should too.

So Bob start that video camera and keep it rolling.

FAI :arggg: Yeah Bob is cheap advertising. I'am 100% sure Bob brings in more sales than a sponsored pilot.

I bought the trex v2 the next day after I watched bob's kit overview of it.
My lepton flies perfect after following the setup vid.
Some people just like to moan.
When he's old he will be the one sitting behind the net curtain with a knife waiting to burst a kids ball that lands in his garden.
Thanks for the vids bob.

BTW as for others doing videos and getting labeled as a Finless copy... Thats BS. John ( Mercuriell) has done several excellent videos with his latest on how to setup a V-stabi and I have never seen anyone claim he is a Finless copy cat. I support him by putting them in my forum where people can find them.

So if you want to do some on FAI setup I say go for it man! I will help you out by sticking them in my forum if you like!

Remember this is to help people NOT have a competition on videos and labeling people. I will support anyone that wants to do videos if they are helpful.

Wow, I am surprised at how someone can start complaining about a mount mod and it turns into, a :bawl I didn't get my kit first. I joined helifreak for the information that everyone contributes, the great build videos, and the great coverage of the fun fly events. Bob's information is priceless(and free). Everyone makes mistakes, and this one is really a tiny error. I have three helicopters that I have built with the help of Bob's build videos. I have also purchased other items, such as tools, and accessories that Bob has reviewed. All by helicopters have flown flawless on first flight:noteworthy, and the items that he has reviewed have fulfilled my expectations. I agree that a PM of the correction, or presented in a nice way this would have not blown out of proportion. Proper tact goes a long way. Bob is a great person, teacher, friend, and contributer to the RC helicopter community. Keep the build videos coming Bob, you have, and are doing a great job. I appreciate the hard work that you put in your build videos.

Thanks,
Ken

Yeah Erich, i never caught any flak for my Brushless 101 and Bob was kind enough to put it in his forums.

I was going to stay out of this since I don't really watch Bob's videos but I'm surprised you let this guy get you all riled up. It doesn't take much detective work to figure out who he is and I've been reading his whining on RR for years.

i agree with all you guys. a certain member really hit a nerve with the pointless bickering about minor details in bob's vid. i for one do not have the time nor the patience to attempt these videos (some say i mumble too so that wouldnt be good on camera:roll:) and i respect the fact that all the people who put up vids and info on this forum do it on their own time and sacrifice hours upon hours to make these vids. i can only imagine how long it takes to

1. build the heli (one step at a time)
2. edit the film
3. not resist the urge to go fly
4. make sure you dont screw an important step up

it really shows how much you guys care about the hobby and helping others. i bet it takes 5 times as long to get a heli into the air when doing a build series instead of just putting it together and flying.

so finally. THANK YOU TO ALL THAT CONTRIBUTED TO THIS FORUM:noteworthy

Video Link ->YS SR Mid Motor Mount Mod (46 Megs) (http://video.helifreak.com/?subpath=/finless/avant/aurora&filename=ysmod.wmv)

It's a shame you were wrong and full of:bs
Remember this quote?
You can bet it will be a lot more accurate than Homey the clowns.
Guys... this comment by G MAN was directed at not only me but the maker of this heli. Not sure WHO the Homey is or the Clown but I think we can see in the end WHO the clown is :lolol

The facts always LIE within :)
Don't always believe someone that swears he is right and then attacks with name calling when questioned... That attitude is a sure give away to the REAL person within....

OK I have had my fun :)
