Hey, y'all, here's one for to think on:

Fairly new Belt CP, stock, right out of the box. No mods.

On about the 10th flight, during a nice hover, the engine loses RPM's. A lot of them. I recover, but it seems I hold more stick to get the same hover. Tone-wise, yes, the motor's turning a lot slower.

Land, allow everything to cool off. Battery warm, motor pretty warm, ESC warm. Hmmm.

New pack, a wait of about 30 minutes. Back to normal hover power again. Until about three minutes or so, then, she sags down to this very low RPM again.

Mechanical inspection yielded no clues, so, I'm guessing it's either the motor overheating, or the ESC's decided to start playing games.

Opinions and suggestions, yes, welcome. I want my sharp mast RPM back!

Maybe your setup is a lttle tight and it is causing the esc the overheat.
Trying easing of the the belt tension and the gear is probably to tight aswell, back it off a bit.
If that doesnt help then maybe your esc is fried.

In addition to Sparkys suggestions, I would check the Motor/ESC soldering. It might not be the soulution, but a good thing to check out.

How long was the 10th flight prior to the rpm drop because the esc has a volt cutoff at 9 volt.
Could you touch and hold the warm parts, when they are to hot you can not hold them.

If it suddenly starts during flight, it sounds more like low voltage cut-off than any mechanical problem to me. The LVC is there to protect your battery, and it's set to the minimum safe voltage - discharging the battery any further will mean permanent damage. When the RPM drops, it's a definite sign that you need to land like 30 seconds ago.

You don't mention how soon the LVC kicks in, but if you're not running a timer it can be really easy to lose track in hovering... That's why I also use a LiPo alarm to tell me when it's time to land *before* the motor suddenly loses power. The cut-off is pretty drastic on the Esky ESC, and has caused a lot of crashes when it kicks in during FF or aerobatics.

I had that and it was cused by a faulty charger, not actually giving the batt a decent recharge.
Must get one of those LIPO monitor things!!!!
