OK Guys, I need some help understanding this BEC thing. What exactly does it do, when do I need it on my 400? I have 65mg's only at this time but am looking at the 401/9650 combo (as most of you suggest) for the tail. Thanks for all of your posts as they have helped me alot. Keep the info coming! Great site.

Not sure (when) but def buy time you do the tail and gy401 - the 9650 is a good servo but I do notice a slight better feel with the 3400G (also have 285's on cyclic) guess I like the JR name.

Basically from my little knowledge it (the bec) supplies power to the rx and servos (gyro too maybe) anyways with it doing that helps keep the ESC cooler. I use a SportBEC in 6V mode.....very easy to install and at the same time you might consider changing out the EC3 connector with a deans.

Where did you get the Sport BEC as I haven't seen it on any sites? It seems that the JR units are better from fourm input, but I'm trying to get the best bang for the buck. I'm going to change over to Dean's later, but for now the only thing that's getting warm is the batt.. Thanks for the info and keep it coming.

You have to rip the EC3 connector to soler in the BEC so I'm just saying why not do it once is all, up to you. (I'm not very good at soldering). I bought it direct from the manufacturer but you can buy for the same price (30.00) from heli-direct, this way too you can order other parts you may need/want at the same time and save on shipping.

the BEC provides power for everything but the motor. BEC stands for Battery Eliminator Circuit. It connects to your main battery and steps the voltage down to a level usable by the electronics. You want one because once you start to add digital servos you start to pull more amps from the stock ESC's BEC and it gets hot and may cause a shutdown. Having a separate BEC allows you to provide more power to your gear without fear of a shutdown ( and impending crash).

I didn't like the way the 9650 or the 9257 fit .. my choice would be the jr 3400 or 3500

Heres where I stuck mine. The green ferrite ring is no longer right beside the receiver tho, I moved it up the cable so now it sits right up the front.
