I can't say enough about this tiny Heli. Yes, it's expensive, but IMHO it's worth every penny. The build quality is top notch! AND the flight characteristics.....one word: WOW! Stable as heck, but not so much as it's boring compared to the Blade CX2 counter-rotator. The SRB flies more like a "real" heli, even though it's fixed pitch. That's because it has a bell-hiller design built into it. It's very unique, and has several international patents pending. The gyro on the SRB is incredible! It feels like a heading hold gyro even though it's not. It holds the tail very, very well, even in backwards flight. The piros are consistent left and right.
A couple things I didn't like about the design are the battery system and landing gear. The original battery system has a small 480mAh, 2 cell pack with a clam-shell cover that encases the battery to the bottom of the heli. The pack also has a weird Molex connector that's a little tricky to attach to the 4 in 1. I made my own adapter that goes from a Molex to a Micro Deans, then I use a Thunderpower 730mAh pack that gives me up to 12 minutes of flight, and only weighs 5 grams more! I attach the pack using some Industrial Strength Velcro... it works perfectly! The stock battery costs $65! The Thunderpower costs $30.
The landing gear has some weird bosses on the left skid to offset the right aileron input needed for lift off. I cut them off and added some 1/8" fuel tubing so the heli doesn't spin on a flat surface upon lift off.
Using an FM radio kind of sucks. But I just used my trusty old Airtronics RD8000 and it works great. It took about 5 minutes to program. All I had to do is buy a micro crystal for the correct frequency and adjust some switches on the SRB receiver so that it works with Airtronics. The receiver is designed to work with Airtronics, JR, or Futaba. OR you can buy the heli with a 4 channel radio for an additional $50.
I haven't flown the heli outside, but I hear it's very good even in a slight breeze. I mainly bought it for indoor fun....it definitely fits the bill. It's much more fun the CX2. The blade design is cool because they're made of styrofoam, so in the event of a blade strike they just shear off, saving the head components. I've personally went thru 5 sets of blades and haven't damaged anything else on the heli. The heli includes 4 sets of extra blades in the box too! Pretty cool.
Anyway, I just thought I'd share. I think the SRB Quark is the ultimate indoor heli. Too much fun :clappp
