Completely agree with DW - after all, that's what I'm still doing. GWS models are generally among the cheapest and have the worst looking foam out there... So they're all I have built so far. If I ever crash so badly the plane is unsalvageable, I simply dig the electronics out of the wreckage, get another $50 NPS or slope glider kit and start over. All the expensive components have a very high chance of survival, since they're... well... packed in foam :D

As far as surface finish goes, just look at the horrible foam grain on these two. I didn't bother to put in that much work on these (P40 upper surfaces aren't even glassed, just sanded), and my friends had to pick them up to realize they were made of foam.

I used to hot wire fuselages out of packing foam when I was young:) and use any wings and tails I had lying around.

Foam really is a brilliant shock absorber. I had the wings come off one at about 400 feet and pile full throttle into the ground (3 channel no throttle) .

After walking a quarter of a mile to retrieve the wings and digging the engine out of the ground and cleaning it, we had it flying again within 20 mins. ( with the help of half a pack of epoxy resin):YeaBaby:

Just finished this Me 109. It's from the same 1/72 Accurate Miniatures series as the P-51 below.

Yea it looks great

It is a different scene now that Jet models are powered by fans and turbines rather than flippin glo motors. I could never see the point of someone spending half a year building a beautiful scale VC10 or similar and then sticking 2 whining props on the back

Jeez... That thing has better fly-by-wire than the original :D

At that price I'd be all over it if I had a field big enough to fly it in. Always liked the lines of the Gripen.

The Bf 109 looks just as good as the P-51, Jack... What is that, a G-2? You're making me want to take up modelling again

Interesting piece of trivia... All 109s officially carried the Bayerische Flugzeugwerke (Bf) designation, since the design was entered into Reichsluftfahrtministerium paperwork before Willy Messerschmitt acquired the company in 1938 and renamed it Messerschmitt AG. I think the 110 was the first to get the Me designation.

Ok maybe I will go for a foam plane. I will start off with a foam plane and my next plane will be fiberglass...

I don't want to take up flying planes like I am with helicopters. The plane will just be for fun. Once I am confident with the foam plane. I will get one fiberglass plane and then never buy another plane again.

I will be making sure that the second plane I get will be a good one so it will last.

Thanks Ian, but the truth is this series of kits comes pre-painted. I just put it together and did a little touchup.

They do look great though, it would take me a month to get that finish!

LOL GOOD LUCK WITH THAT ONE BUDDY!!!

Planes are Worse than heli's... Heli's once you get a good flying one your satisfied with it and thats it... With planes its totally diferent always wanting something just a little better / faster.

Yes its foam, i would look around first though, that site seems quite expensive, you can get 3 RTF foam planes for the price they want to sell you that RTF for.

it definately is a nice plane though, but for me i would have to modify it to add Rudder because i love doing knife edge's

Oh. I need a 4 channel. Didn't realise it was only 3 channel.

When it gets closer to xmas I will look into it more. Im sure you guys can guide me to a plane that is right for me:D

I am actually really good at flying planes on the sim. But then again I am good at flying heliopters on the sim. So I cant really say untill I get one. But if it is foam I will probably be confident enough to do the things. And like you said, when you crash them most of the time you can just pick them up and glue it back together and fly it 10 mins later.

What is a knife edge? When you fly the aeroplane on its side? I also like doing those:P

DW, I know I will probably want more and more. I suppose I will end up getting more than one when I think about it because I understand what your saying. And trying out different planes on the sim is really fun. But what I should have said is. Whilst im a teen with no job and no money I will get one. Obviously when im older with money my wallet will have the dreaded leak. Im sure I will end up with a few planes in my time:D

I know these fast planes are really impressive, but I also like seeing them fly at scale like speeds.

I had a 60 powered low wing sport plane that I could slow right down with out any tip stalling and without sticking the nose up and hanging on the prop.

It would do totally scale like touch and go's and climb gently away with just a couple of clicks of throttle.

It would do really large slow loops climbing vertically on the throttle and keeping slow on the descent when you throttled back

Alot of planes come without rudder now adays, Rudder isnt really necessary unless your going to do 3d flying or do knife edges... On the foam planes its easy enought to simply cut that part of the vertical fin and make it a rudder.... The P51 comes with rudder so if you dont like to tinker then thats the one for you.. Flys VERY scale also.
