View Full Version : I think its time to go brushless on my CP Pro
Ok, today I attempted my first loop/flip. Did a few practice runs into the wind to visualize what I was going to do. Then went for broke at about 30ft. Did the flip kind of tight, probably should have got more forward speed as I lost altitude in the flip. In getting out of the flip the heli continued to drop even though I had it at full throttle. The little heli was struggling so hard in the drop(about 15-10ft) but didn't have enough power to stop falling. Luckly it slowed down enough when it landed. It only broke one leg at the skid. But when it broke the skid it tilted over and the blades hit the ground and the pin snapped. Odds are the feather and the spindle are slightly bent too, but no other visible damage.
I know my bird is not light, I've added a dual tail and hh gyro, but I've never been able to punch this thing and have it rocket up. So hopefully a brushless motor will do it and get me out of trouble in the future.

Damage Report: Must have been the cheapest crash I've ever had. Only cost me a drop of CA to fix the skid and a piece of paper clip to replace the pin. Miraculously it spun up and flew without any shakes or unusual vibrations. :)

If you're serious about the hobby, then get a bigger heli like a T-Rex 450, you'll have more fun building it, it will be more stable and easier to fly, and your flying will progress faster than with a blade. It would be a much better investment than going brushless if you're serious about it. It's a fun build and you'll have even more fun flying it.
Investment........there is no such thing as an investment in this hobby. Its one money pit after another. If I wanted to invest I would just leave my money in the bank. :)
But seriously, ya I am considering getting a 450 heli either a Trex, Mini-T, or something. Having 2 heli's is always good since these things often tend to get out of operational status either due to the maintainer or the pilot. But I like the Blade for what it is.

If you do go brushless on the CP, then you have to get a direct drive tail motor too, if you don't the tail will have no hold at all.
What's a good DD setup so get? I just ordered the ARC-20-34-130-I and Phoenix 10 from http://lightflightrc.com.
thanks

GWS! here's a link to an entire DD setup: http://bladecprepair.com/man_tr_dd_conversion.html
