Hi,
just a quick question about the 401, Do i have to set it to hold the tail in rate mode to get it to work properly in HH. or can i just wack it on, set the tail slider to centre when arm is at 90deg and bob's your uncle.as i never fly in rate mode and it's always a pain to set.

thanks

You always have to set it up in rate mode otherwise your reference from centre points will be gone. (In HH setting up will be a pain because it changes centre to the relative point it was initiated in)

Check out Bob's vid on setting up the 401 (http://video.helifreak.com/?subpath=finless/trex450&filename=gyro_setup.wmv)

sorry maybe i did'ent explane myself properly. i have watched bobs vids and no where does is state that i have to hover is rate mode and adjust the position of the servo on the boom to achive a stable tail. with most gyros you have to set about 8 deg of pitch on the tail in rate mode so the tail will hold, before HH will work properly.

If its a trex or 450 size don't worry about fussing with a rate mode hover.

Rate mode and center the servo, center the slider and set the limit pot, look for 100 or so.

Put it in heading hold and leave it there.

Thanks for the help.

The gyro turned up in the post today and after reading the instructions i noticed it says "switch the gyro switch to the normal position, the led goes off, lift off into a hover and adjust the rudder neutral position with the transmitter trim lever.(large rudder deviation may require readjustment of the linkage)".

I realize that with the trim lever adjusted that every time you turn on the gyro(AVCS Mode) it will read the trimmed position as the rudder neutral position.

The question i have is. If you do this, wont the servo limits be offset so you will never get full travel out of the pitch slider one way?

I was always under the impression trimming by the transmitter and HH gyros dont mix.

Just set it in the center with as much throw as you can get and don't fool with it.

The trex linkage geometry isn't made for a 401, or a 401 wasnt designed with those dinky tai sliders in mind.
