Hello guys, I have a raptor 30 v2. I am trying to get the maximum power of my OS 32 SXH.
My current throttle curve in IDLE 1 is: 95, 64, 50, 64, 95.
I am flying -8, +8 pitch and hovering +4.
Are my throttle curves ok?????
While hovering at aproximately 70% throttle the RPM are high, constant, when I try to climb up, flip, roll or go inverted, I feel clearly how the RPM decreases considerably and I have to decrease the throttle (when I go inverted I have to keep the heli inverted for 5-10secs in order to gain RPM again and flip back to normal position).
I wanted to know if there is a way to modify my throttle curve and have better performance, I think that hovering at 70% throttle and then trying to climb up (increasing throttle to 90% for example) the combination of throttle change and pitch makes the RPM decrease. what would happen if I increase my throttle curve or I close the numbers to 95,80,65,80,95 for example???? is that too much and I might damage my engine?????

Hey bro,
I am too new to nitro to offer any solid advice, but when I asked a similar question, I was advised to get a governor. So I have one on the way.
But for what it's worth, the last curve you posted I think would be way too high a headspeed at the 80 number. I had a similar one that was even lower (2nd number was 72) and it was way too high for my Raptor 50....not sure if it would be different for your 30.

but the raptor 50 is more powerful than a raptor 30..... maybe that is why. I guess that an OS 50 (specially hyper) produces more RPM at 70% throttle than a OS 32.......
anyone with more opinions about the throttle curves for IDLE 1 for raptor 30???? thankssssss
On raptortechnique.com the following throttle curves are recommended:
weak 30 size = 100, 74, 62, 74, 100
strong 30 size = 100, 60, 50, 60, 100
but what is a weak 30 size???? my raptor with OS 32 and rev muffler?
what is a strong 30 size???? a raptor with an OS 37 and pipe????
what about 95, 75, 60, 75, 95? for my set up???? or I could consider my set up as "strong"?
can someone help me out in this????

One thing that jumped right out at me in your post is that your hovering at +4 degrees. I'm curious what kind of head speed your running to do that? I hover at just under +6 degrees with a head speed of around 1600 to 1650 rpm.

no idea man, I don't have a tachometer :O(
but I am sure, I hover at about +4 to +5... not more.....
my pitch is -8, +8... I feel my HS is very high in middle stick and at hovering point but when I give more collective than hovering, I feel how the HS decreases badly, that is why I am trying to figure out if it's normal. Just to make clear, while flying just normal the heli flyes great:
but I am trying to squeeze all the power I can in order to do some aerobatics, I am trying to get a video a friend of mine took of me doing aerobatics and you guys will see how it behaves.....

take a look at my video before crashing, is that the normal power of an OS 32?????

your raptor seems on par for a 30
.30 are so under-powered! upgrade to a .50, best mod you can do! i promise youll love it:)

OK. What are your pitch curves. I've got the same heli with the same engine. I'll compare your pitch and throttle curves to mine.

My current throttle curve in IDLE 1 is: 95, 64, 50, 64, 95.
I am flying -8, +8 pitch and hovering +4.
Well, the pitch curve I think would be different from you, the reason is because I played with the travel limits until I got the limits -8, +8, I knew I should have played with the curve, but I found easier to reduce top and bottom limits. I checked my pitch at all points and everything is ok for -8, +8

Here's what I'm using right now:
My pitch range is: -5 to +10 with 100% ATV's
My hover pitch is: +5.75
NORMAL: Pitch curve: 23% (-2.5) 23% (-2.5) 38% (0) 64% (+6) 92% (+9)
Throttle curve: 10% 25% 25% 38% 100%
IDLE 1: Pitch curve: 0% (-5) 23% (-2.5) 38% (0) 63% (+6) 92% (+9)
Throttle curve: 35% 29% 35% 42% 100%
Note: I will probably have to increase my throttle % at the O and 1/4 stick positions when I get to doing loops and such to keep from bogging the head.
Hope this helps,
Jim

watch my last video before crashing, try to hear the engine and you will see when it bogs...

thanks for your info man, my throttle curve is different in IDLE 1 because I need 95% bottn and top to fly inverted.

Hi what fuel are you using and what exhaust do you have fitted. My g/f's v1 30 had similar traits and after endless messing about with it i ended up using 30% wildcat and a curtis pipe and it helped alot. Now the engine in ours is one of the rare mds 38 pro's THAT WORK!!!!! and it is not shy of power at all. i recently set up a rappy 30 for a guy with an os 32 and ours had more oompf. also our throttle curves and pitch curves are
normal throttle 0, 45, 65, 75, 85 pitch in degrees -8, -4, 0, +4, +8
iu1 throttle 90, 80, 75, 80, 90 pitch -8, -4, 0, +4, +8
iu2 throttle 100, 92, 85, 92, 100 pitch -9.5, -4.5, 0, +4.5, +9.5
the 30 class cannot handle any more pitch than that and after 3 or 4 tictocs the engine is really starting to lose power but it will recover fairly quickly. my headspeed is around 2300 2350 and the engine is really on the pipe in peak power all the time

wow, you throttle curves are interesting.... aren't you forcing too much the engine??? what engine do you have???? I guess that if I use that throttle curve, I would have higher RPM, am I right???

Might I recommend checking out.
http://raptortechnique.com
Mr. Mike Prewitt has an excellent site on raptors; 30,50 &90
His insite and recommendations apply to any nitro heli.
Hope this is of some small help.

yes, but in the website for the throttle curves, he mentions 2 different throttle curves, one for a 30 "weak raptor" and one for a 30 "strong raptor".... what is my raptor with OS 32 revolution std muffler????

IDLE 1: Pitch curve: 0% (-5) 23% (-2.5) 38% (0) 63% (+6) 92% (+9)
Throttle curve: 35% 29% 35% 42% 100%
That might be type O for your throttle curve JIM T Esepically flying inverted!
Might want to revaluate that first 35%

Good catch. I saw that myself when I printed it out. It's what I'm presently using, but all I'm doing is flying around at this point. I can see that it would benefit from bumping it up when I get a little "sportier". :YeaBaby: I'm open to suggestions. Might as well get it set up properly.

Those throttle curves are interesting, however, I would like to know if they are NOT TOO HIGH for an OS 37????? I mean, wouldn't it increase too much the RMP and heat up the engine????
