View Full Version : 450 Setup help
Can anyone please share some settings that makes the trex 450 act any more "realistic" at all? I can't believe how the default schemes just float in the air like they do. I hit the throttle hold on my controller at 4 or 5 feet off the ground and the thing literally just hovered in the air for 10 FULL SECONDS before even starting to go down. Please help, I don't understand why the heli's behave like this, and flying like im under water is not very fun.

eidt aircraft, reduce pitchd to 11, blade inertia to 5 or 4, pinion to 13, no expo, 3000 headspeed, piro rate to 600, theres many things you can do to make the 450 fly more realistic.. good luck
Thanks for the tips. I will try all that stuff, but honestly I don't see why I should have to. Shouldn't the heli's have at least some resemblence to reality out of the box? Not sure about you guys but the last time I flipped the throttle hold while hovering my real heli it pretty much had a tendency to react to gravity and go down. Not continue to hover in the air for another 10 seconds... I dunno, I guess I'm just PO'd that everyone seems to be exclaiming how great the physics are with this sim. I don't see it so far. Like I said before it's like heli's under water or something. I guess I'll start a tweaking and hope to trick the sim into acting more real.

My copy of phoenix showed up today.
WOW...beautiful is all I can say. Awesome.
However I share RaZa's sentiments...(though I do think '10 full seconds' may be SOMEWHAT of an exaggeration)
The Trex 500 feels more like my 450. Jason, I will try your changes to see if it feels any better.
Anyone else? Has anyone else cracked the '450 on phoenix' nut with other settings/suggestions?
Thank you in advance
Leave the pitch at+-13. Reduce the blade interia to 0.05 this will accurately model the flare of a 450 but the real 450 drops ALOT faster than the sim.

yes the t500 does fly like a 450, and the blade inertia does make it auto like a 450 thanks to hfg, but i still havent found the right setting so i just fly it normal with the sim speed turned up a little. but if any of you find out how to tweak that thing let us know
Sorry but i find the 500 on the sim completely different from my real 450. I will post my 450se variant parameters tomorrow.

I wish it was. I actually sat and counted seconds. At a 5 foot hover from the time I hit the TH switch to the time the heli touched the ground was 11 seconds.
I decreased the blade inertia and I think that helped slightly, but I'm afraid to go too low on the inertia becuase that can cause the blades to stop way too fast.

That's one thing I am trying to live with as well. I find that -3 pitch on my heli makes it drop roughly as fast as Phoenix' -13 pitch. Even then, my heli would still drop faster. Is there a way to tweak the speed the heli drops in the sim?
