i am building an extreme lama from scratch and been looking for parts. i noticed that e-sky 8g servo are always out of stock.

what other servo can i use? so far i found that HXT 900 9g servo would fit.

please post some suggestions.

You can use Tower Pro SG90's. They're a direct replacement for the Eskys. Response is a little quicker, but that's a good thing!

Here's a link so you can see what they look like -

I've been looking at new servos too, but from a weight loss perspective. I don't think you really need much torque or speed with a little coax, and you can save quite a bit of weight by going with a smaller servo.
I've been eyeballing 2 of these:
http://www.aeromicro.com/catalog/blue_bird_ultra_servo_bms-303_4311517.htm
or maybe even 2 of these:
http://www.bphobbies.com/view.asp?id=V253880&pid=A3618020

With 2 of those Blue Bird's you would save 9.2 grams of weight, gain .01 sec of speed and lose 7 oz-in of torque.

With 2 of those Blue Arrow's you would save 11 grams of weight, keep the same speed and lose 16 oz-in of torque.

But you'll probably also gain some weight back from figuring out a way to mount the smaller servos. I'll let you know how this goes if I decide to go through with it. :)

So far I've shaved 35 grams off my Lama, and it's noticeably more responsive. My next steps will be a lighter battery (30 gram 400mAh 2s 20c pack instead of the standard 48 gram 800mAh 2s 18c pack) and a pair of SE motors (same weight, more ponies).

Sounds cool, let us know how it goes.

I haven't purchased any servos yet.
Recently I've been spending most of my time and money on my HBK2, but hopefully I'll eventually get back to this project.
I was waiting on version 2 of my CF frame project since neither of these smaller servos will fit without making some modifications, but I haven't yet taken the time to get the new design drawn up.

I know how it goes. I never have enough time for my projects. :)
