I just purchased a new Hawk Pro and OS37 from Heli-world.com, I can't wait to get it now. This will be my first glow engine powered heli. I'm pretty excited.

Congratulations on your purchase. I would suggest (if you are not familiar with nitro helis) to get some help from your local flyers. Good luck to you in the transition.
Im just about to order the same combo. Cant beat the price and an extra %8 off to boot! Getting the 3037 silent muffler too.
Is there any must haves for upgrades on this? Im not doing hard 3d, more sport 3d.

Thanks Ray, if I could find someone to help me I would. From the beginning of my heli passion there has been no one but myself to rely on, I have not physically seen anyone else fly helicopters until I was in Las Vegas and went to the field there and watched a couple of guys flying. This is my 8th heli but first nitro heli, although I have been flying glow powered airplanes for over 38 years I will still need help setting up the Hawk.
BC, yes there are plenty of upgrade paths for the Hawk and I have not progressed far enough to do any live 3D......I am just a chicken really.

Once you get the hang of matching your throttle curves and pitch curves and most especially have a source for replacement parts, you'll turn from a chicken to a Chicken Hawk! :)

That is funny :)
I like it

Hey, congrats on your purchase. I have the same exact heli. I am currently having problems starting the motor and breaking it in... The fan that goes on top of the motor keeps popping off as I turn the engine with my starter!!!:arggg::arggg::arggg:
If you have similiar problems and know how to fix it. Any help would be great! :noteworthy

congratulations! You have purchased the BEST $200 heli on the market.
there are a few quirks you will have to sort out, and then you will have a solid learning machine. Do not expect it to be a 3D monster, this machine is not designed for all that, it will however service you for a long, long time if care is taken to build it correctly.

This, I have to respectfully disagree with. The Hawk PRO that I purchased was bare stock. Other than placing a Toki 40 and pipe combo on it and a good set of carbon blades, this heli was stock. I setup the pitch range and throttle and went flying with it. It will do mild 3D and some (depending on your flying ability).
I do agree with Wayne in that this heli is the best $200 you will ever spend.

that contradicts yourself Ray. I didn't say it would not 3D, I said or implied it is not a hard 3D machine. I have a lot of respect for this model, and have owned quite a few of them.
Tough as a Mack truck, and pretty forgiving until you try to ask something of it its not made to do.

As do I, Wayne ;)

IMO, that's the fun of this sport. Push the envelope (granted within safety parameters) to see what the designers were really thinking. :D

addy005, I have not recieved mine yet from Heli-world.
Ray and Wayne thanks for the kind words regarding the Hawk, I will be using the DS821 servos that came with my DX7. I will probably pick a Fut. 401 for tail as I really like the job the other one has been doing on the Dragonus.

Do yourself a favor..Get BETTER servos than the ds821...leave the 821 for the plane guys.

Dave, yeah I have read some of the problems with these servos and I will replace them when I sell some of the smaller helis. I still need to pick up a tail servo and gyro, remote glow igniter and an AR7000 rx, oh and a hex extension for my Sullivan starter.
As far as servos are concerned what are people using with the Hawk and what type of flying are they doing with them? Anyone?
Thanks

All my Century machines are running the venerated Futaba S9252. IMO, they are very good for using either flying sport or 3D.

Tom, I ended up with a mixture of servos:
Futaba 3050 for ail and elev
JR ST126MG on collective
JR DS537 on throttle
So far so good!

The Hawk has landed at my house, the UPS driver delivered the box this afternoon.
I pulled the canopy out and set it next to my largest heli......all I can say is WOW.
So much larger than my current micros and minis.

frist the ds821 are ok . ive been flying them in my hawk for a year and a half now and no problems ive had to to replace the servo that came with my 401 cuz it craped out . the ds821's were made for planes and 30 sized helis yes 30 sized if you go past that the stress on them will strip them in no time , any how
even though yall are still learning the nitro side of helis i would recomend you go through all the screws and retighten them and buy the anti-rotation bracket it will clean the slop out of the swashplate 10 fold
and here is something to check once your flying

good luck and happy landings

Congrats on your Hawk! I personally think the Hawk is a great first nitro to learn on. It will offer you good flight times too. I have 4 hawks, 2 pros with os37's, 1 sport and 1 hawk IV both with OS.32 and the OS .32's are great of fuel. I can fly for 25 minutes. I would like to try the Toki engine and pipe combo. On another note, I have one bird that is running the DS821's and I have not had any problems with them. :Bang

Thanks Redneck and jetfixr for the vote of confidence on the DS821 servos.
I have been out of town alot lately and have not had time to fly any helis or even build on the Hawk.
But while I have been in Las Vegas alot latley I have been buying the rest of the parts I need to complete my Hawk. I have just picked up an AR7000 from HobbyTown on Sahara Ave and still need a tail servo/gyro combo.

You made a good buy IMHO. I fly a HawkSport and just love it. It is very hardy. YOu asked about upgrades so Ill throw in my 2C
6MM feathering shaft the stock FS bens pretty easy
Anti-rotation bracket (should be stock IMO)
HD landing struts, stock are pretty weak, at least I broke em all the time and broke none since I changed
Next on my list is the bigger flybar.
They are great learners, Ive crashed mine more than I say but alot.
Good luck
Im kinda new here so this may be a no no but on RR, in the century section SteveH has a sticky thread on set up that is very very good.
