Has anybody tried the MGM Compro ESC's?

They look pretty nice, and I have found their plank ESC's to be very good and stable in the past, but I don't see anybody using them in helis. Just wanting to see if there is something wrong about them which I don't know about?

The main reason for asking is that I am very happy with my Jazz, but am looking for my next heli. There seem to be some people having problems with the Jives, and they are also very difficult to get still. So I was having a look for alternatives.

I could only find one Freak who is using them. He has one in a Raptor E550 and one in a Hurricane 500, and says they are fantastic (but he has never used a Kontronic so couldn't compare). He says governor mode is great, and although it is a bit fiddly to set up, the autorotation (bail out) quick start switch is a bonus. He said that their support was fantastic too.

Unfortunately they have to be stick programmed - the MGM PC software link only operates on their plank ESC's, but that isn't too big a deal.

You can even have one or two heatsinks added at the factory for a nominal fee which is also nice.

Anyway, just wondering why they look so good on paper, and yet nobody is using them? Any comments?

I have a couple of the heli esc's.
They worked well enough but were way to hard to stick program. I wouldnt go down that path until they have an easier way.

Stick programming is pretty easy, just read through a few times.

I judge intelligence by ones ability to rtfm and program an mgm esc. If you can understand and do it then that makes you a genius in my eyes cos for the life of me i have nfi.

If i ever have a need to use the couple i have here i will be sure to call you up for assistance.

Thanks Ozace,

Yeah, the guy I spoke to said it took quite a while for him to understand, and then he took his blades off and bench tested it to make sure he had understood it correctly (particularly the fast auto bailout start vs. the slow normal spoolup start). He did say that after he got his head round the theory of what he was trying to do, it wasn't too bad to actually do the stick programming.

It's a shame they haven't got the PC software or programming card options for the Heli models. I guess we'll have to wait for that.

In the meantime, hopefully Kontronic get sorted out and get the Jive available and working well.

Well Ozace, you might finally be able to find a home for the MGM Esc's

I emailed them and asked if they had any plans to release a PC link or programming card for their heli ESC's, and got the following response.(within 12 hours I might add, which is promising, and luckily his English is a lot better than my Czech ;))

we plan it. We prepare new controllers line for heli (full expert and Z-series lines), fully programmable via transmitter, via programming card UNICARD and via PC. Controllers will be available during 1 - 2 month.

Best regards,
Grisa

So with a bit of luck you will be able to program the two you have and give us all a performance report :YeaBaby: . With a bit of luck we might have an alternative to Kontronic with a wide range of size options :smokin:

If you get them going please let us know how they go.

I wont be getting them, my dealer tells me they are too hard to deal with as a company which means my supply is cutoff. We will have to wait on another guinea pig to tell us how they go.

Try a Hobbywing 60A pentium 3A(5A) bec esc as Ive had over a 150 flights on my logo 10 running 2300H/S,f/powers 6s 3300mah,digital servos all round,NO external bes and its ausome, has a program card for the field(programs in 3 seconds) and the best part is the price,In fact I changed all my esc to Hobbywings............

They have now launched a 80A with bec 3-5A esc.

Hi Ozace,

Damn, I thought we had a free guinea pig ;)

How are you liking your Jive - ie. are you having any of the problems others have been reporting and do you notice any difference in performance from the Jazz?

Lloyd,
Thanks for that. I'll check them out too.

I have had 3 flights with the Jive so far. It works as it should BUT i am still going to remove it and send it back for upgrade. It is too expensive to accept it may cause problems down the track. I will use a flight power 80 amp 6s esc with switching bec until the jive is returned.
