I finally got the piece o' crap cx I received in a trade to look like something decent. It had a bent flybar, destroyed body, retard super glued the antenna onto the frame and around the fuselage. Quite unexpected since none of it was told to me before the trade happened. Well I ordered an Xtreme Sport kit with the landing gear and tail boom setup, as well and the Boomtown shortened flybar and set it all up. I am flying with a TP 910 2s and it has plenty of power and lift for the stock blade setup. About 4 minutes into the flight however itll float down out of the sky and only hover about 3-6 inches from the ground. It wont go up any higher at all. I know that the battery isn't discharged that much that quick, even thought I was just maybe that stupid so I hooked it to my charger and was not even close to a half discharge. What could be causing this? Also, how fast should this little cx be able to travel? It seems mighty slow to me but that could be just because I fly other stuff as well. Thanks for the help Freaks.
Also, im not sure if this helps but, during the first part of the flight the tail is locked in. After is drops down to its lower hover the tail is constantly moving. The heli piros left and requires a strong constant right input.

Sounds like one of the motors is binding or one of the shafts is slipping. Grab the gears on the bottom and see whether or not you can rotate the upper or lower head. If you can, then the shafts are slipping (either at the head or at the gear).

Agree on checking the motor and gears. I'd add that if the heli was that damaged to begin with then there could be any number of causes. It is easy to take apart and put together so I'd drop it totally down checking every part as it is reassembled and making sure it is right. Since you mentioned that she wants to nose left then that sure makes me suspect of a motor or gear problem. It is more than possible that one of the motors is fried or just worn out which would account for this problem as well as lowered run time. Buy the Xtreme motors from Boom Town Hobbies for a excellent upgrade. One last thing, make sure the battery holder rear attachment parts are not rubbing against the outside gear as this would also account for the problem.
As for the slow forward flight, one thing to do is increase the throw on the swash plate by moving your linkage out one hole. Also if you are running with a DX6 or 7 then move your Travel ADJ past 100% to 125% for more travel. She's never super fast but it is still surprising how fast it will go.

Once you start increasing forward flight speed be warned... once the blades strike it falls like a shot DUCK out of the air :)

Well I managed to spin the lower gear while holding the upper blades but it took some force so im not too sure its doing that in flight, however im gonna get new shafts for it anyways. Ill try moving the linkages out, by out you mean furthest away from the servo? I run with the stock radio for now but Ill most likely pick up another receiver down the line so I can run it off my dx7. For now though the stock radio is fine, plus I dont wanna spend the money on the 2n1 and receiver when it could be going into my wings and trex. To me it seems its one of the motors getting hot and losing power, which would be why it spins to the left since one set of rotors loses power. Makes sense right? Boomtown here I come lol. Any more thoughts?

BigAl is right, beware! increased throw can lead to blade strikes. So far I've not had one but sure have heard of some having that problem.
As for the linkage set up - factory settings have the linkage in the hole next to the servo outdrive. You can move out one hole which is more throw for the swash. One is all I'd ever do since the upper blade is not controlled by swash linkage but is flybar controlled. I believe this is why the increased possability of blades striking one another. Of course the blades are supposed to remain 90 degrees off the shaft but of course they are pretty light plastic.
The spinning gear is a definate sign of needing repair but for sure one motor getting hotter shows a problem with the motors. Yeah, Boom Town is the place to go for all the parts you need.
The upper blades gear (your right the lower gear controls the upper blades) is held on by a collar with two set screws. There is a flat spot on the shaft and a hole in the gear for the set screws to go through. Look for the flat spot on that shaft when you replace the collar and align the hole in the gear with the flat spot on the shaft and make sure one of the screws seats on that flat spot.
My blade is a CX2 so I'm not sure about the CX but with a little checking you'll be able to see if they are the same.

From what I have heard they are mechanically the same bird. The difference is the new electronic setup that the cx2 boasts. Im going to the hobby shop today to pick up a new foamy wing so if they have upgraded motors ill grab a set and some shafts. Already have some extra gears. If not ill hit up Boomtown and get the Xtreme motors, blades, and some stock shafts. If I get there extended shaft it will help stop boomstrikes but at the same time wouldn't I have to order whenever I bend a shaft?

If you go the second hole on your servo arm I wuld sugest getting the shortened fly bar and the shaft extension kit. Once I went to the second hole I was getting blade strikes pretty often, once I went to the third hole I noticed it was turning into a Brick quite often. I went to the longer shafts and it got alot better, but I was still getting blades stoppages, with the black blades it took a while to figure out what it was. The stock flybar will come down low enough to get into bottom blades. There are two fixes for that cut your fly bar down and put the weights back on, or get the shortened fly bar kit.

I actually have the shortened flybar kit already so its all good there. I think I really just need new motors. They smell a little funky after a few minutes so it must be the cause.

Every time I have smalt something funny was after paying for parts for my CPPro and it was usually me. If the engines smell funny then something is down in them or, you have burnt something up. I woulld sugguest the Ball bearing motors from Boomtown hobbies.
