Since lipos holds no memory whats the real purpose of cycling them or discharging them?

There is no reason to cycle your LiPo, as you said they do not retain a memory. If you're storing them for a period of time they should be stored at 50%. A fully charged LiPo accelerates oxidation corroding the internal leads and increasing resistance. The 50% charge reduces the oxidation rate preserving battery life.
