hi guys. my friend at my lhs says i can remotely adjust my 401 gyro from my radio. i'm using a 6100 rx, and have the single wire plug plugged into channel 5. can i remotely adjust the 401's gain via a switch, or trim?

Yes, you have a few options, but they're limited to a maximum of two discrete values in flight. You can either control it via the flight mode switch, the rudder D/R / throttle hold switch, or the Gear switch. The setup is different depending on which switch you want to use, but it all revolves around the Gear switch assignment in the model setup menus.
If you select "GYRO" for the Gear switch, you will get an extra Gyro Sense menu in your configuration menus. That's the method Jermo used in his DX7 setup video.

If you select "GEAR" for the Gear switch, the Gear channel endpoints control the gain. Just be aware the the endpoint values are -100 through +100 whereas the Gyro Sense values are 0 through 100, so the gain settings are not on the same scale. A value of 0 in the endpoints is equivalent to a value of 50 in the Gyro Sense menu.

ok i think i understand. thanks
here is another problem.
if i move the rudder stick then let it center i get tail wag. i read somewhere that could be binding in the push rod for the tail.

It could be either binding in either the push rod or pitch slider, or a gyro issue. What heli is this? Does the wag subside as you keep the stick centered or does it just keep on wagging? What tail servo are you using and what delay setting are you using on the gyro, if any? What gyro gain setting are you using?

specs are as follows:
trex 450x cde
dx7/6100
401 gyro
S9650 tail servo
haven't flown in almost a week, but it used to subside. last time out if i remember correct it would wag all the time. no crash on the previous pack. just got my other 401 bask from futabe. they sent a new one. if i still have the problem tonight i'll swap it out, and see what happens. i'm not crashing now. hard landings sometimes, but no crashes.
gyro settings:
digital servo ON
delay 100
limit either 120, or 60

With that tail servo, you should be using zero delay. A 100 delay could definitely cause wagging when the tail stops.
Also, you might want to use a different sized servo arm to get the limits closer to 100.

ok i'll see what i can find. i did try it at 0, and 100. same results, but will try again. plus i do have a fresh 401 in hand.

I personally would suggest using the endpoint method of adjusting gain, and tying it to the Gear switch. On your picture, you show the velcro tying the gyro down. Hopefully the velcro is loose! Tying it down with the velcro will make it oversensitive to vibrations and such. You may want to lose the velcro until you get everything right and then put it back on loosely.
Suggest that you set your endpoints at 30 (low) and 70 (high ) initially. Then if you get wag- adjust your high endpoint down by 3 to 5 at a time until it disappears. 30 will put you solidly in rate mode, and 70 should be somewhere near where you need for HH mode.
Check for binding by placing your gyro in rate mode, let the stick center itself, mechanically adjust your servo arm to be 90 degrees. Then move stick both left and right to see if binding. Adjust using the limit pot till neither side is binding. Put back in HH mode to test it out.

i think thats what i did, and now she is rock solid again :) i'm using a setting of 73 for HH if i remember correctly. i need to recenter my tail servo. she drifts a very small amount. i'm also going threw a full reset of the 401 as a maintenance procedure just to be safe.
she doesn't turn as she should using rudder. i think it's just setup though. i think the sailing season is effecting my learning. i sail rc sailboats. USOM if there are any sailors here.
my flying.. i should say hovering has gotten a bit ugly, but if i could fly at least a pack a day i'd get back on track. it's been very windy laity.
