Hello all,

I`m not sure how many people are having this problem, but I`m having it big time. Plus it seems that every pack of new main shafts I buy there has been a bent one in every bag. Well one night at the LHS I noticed that the mini titan mainshaft was close in length, but with one hole not lining up with e-flite. I had a friend drill it for me and test flew this afternoon. I flew a whole flight and never bent the shaft. The only problem is he drilled it a little low, so the shaft does not reach the lower bearing. I think if it is drilled in the right spot, it will just reach into the bearing.

I just thought I would pass this along, Keith

only 15 packs in and have never bent a main shaft just flying around nor have I read it any posts in the different foums...unless I somehow missed something so major??

Have bent one with a good blade strike when I got to close to the coffee table while doing side to sides.

I have hundreds of hours on my b400 and never bent anything while im IN THE AIR. I've bent ALOT of stuff hitting the ground, but nothing while airbone.

How exactly are you bending main shafts in flight?

I'm pretty violent with mine, but no problems yet...

I think your local hobby shop needs to check how they are handling stuff . . . I have bought a number of shafts and never had one pre-bent. As for bending in flight . . . ??!!! you have got to be kidding me.

I`m not kidding. I have been flying w/ scorpion motor/ esc in one for awhile and have been bending shafts almost every flight with aggressive 3D flight. I went back to a stock motor w/ 11T pinion and bent one in less than a minute into the flight. Both of these two shafts I checked to make sure they were straight before installing.

I have heard of people bending them in flight and just thought I would pass along what I found.

I thought you were bending them while in flight?

I am bending them in flight. I check every shaft before I install them to make sure they are straight before installing. That is how I found bent ones from the bags I bought. If they are bent I never straighten them, I only use the ones that are straight. I got so tired of this problem I bought a trex450seV2. I like the B400 and i`m not putting it down. It just can`t handle the same punishment as a 450seV2 can.

If you are not bending them, then great but I am at a higher headspeed. If you run lower than 3000RPM you will possibly never bend one in flight, but go over that and you will..

Well you can't really compare a sev2 to a b400..... they're not in the same league....
an S or an SA maybe.... When changing to a cnc head on mine I had notice I had a slightly bent main shaft, I also hadn't crashed it with that main shaft. I don't know what happened to cause it.
Mind you it was only slightly bent, less than 1mm but it was bent none the less.

OK, need video of how you do this. What maneuver is bending a shaft?

I have two B400`s. On one I had a stock motor and 11t pinion. This one I bent the spindle and mainshaft just doing back to back flips which really surprised me. The other one had a HK2221-8V2 w/ 12T / SW45A ESC and bent main, spindle, and boom doing pyro-flips, rainbows w/ pyro-flips in middle,tic-tocs, and rainbow w/ half rolls at each stop and half roll in the middle.

I can understand the hopped up B400 doing it but not the other one. The one w/ scorpion motor I have bent the main & spindle three times in the air. The other one has bent twice in flight.

If you are running 3000+ rpm, I am not suprised you are bending mainshafts. Anything that is slightly out of balance at those headspeeds will put alot of stress on the mainshaft. Your head needs to be damn near perfectly balanaced. Plus Blade 400 main shafts are hollow, Trex Shafts are solid.

IMHO, the B400 was not intended to fly at 3000+ rpm. It has a plastic head which I wouldnt run at those headspeeds anyway.
