I just bought a Kinetic 50 heli and it came with an MDS 48 engine. The guy at my LHS said that they were difficult to tune, unreliable and not recommended for helicopters because of this. Is this information correct, or can these engines be tuned and run reliably on a helicopter? I was considering the upgrade to an OS 50 Hyper anyway, but I would prefer to do it down the road a ways after I have gotten all of the electronics and mechanicals just the way I like them, and I'm obviously already going to be spending a bit of money to do that. I want to go with the best servos and a really good gyro. Has anyone had any experiences with these MDS 50 engines....good or bad? Thanks Helifreaks...

I've never seen one worth more than it's weight as a paperweight.

Depends a lot on your flying ability but since you already have it, why not try it first and see how it goes. You might be pleasantly surprised.
I have a fantastically reliable TT46ProH in Raptor #2 that cost half the price of a Hyper, produces enough power for mild 3D on 23% nitro which it merely sips at 12 minutes on the main tank. Been running it for three years and never a single flameout or failure.
Now, if you ask many of the so called "experts" what they think about this engine, be prepared to be blitzed by every negative comment under the sun.
Why waste money on an OS when you might have a perfectly usable engine, especially if you don't need the power or poor fuel consumption.
