How does the JR 5000t stack up against the newer gyros like the 770 and solid G ect.I got a good deal on one a while back and I wander if its worth puting it in my raptor 60.Thanks.
I see this is an old post with no response from anyone.
Until JR released the 7703D you couldn't pay me to use one of their gyros - you still can't but I understand the 7703D performs well, based on anecdotal evidence.
I made the mistake of buying a G410T (Basic Tail Lock) gyro thinking since it was made in Japan by JR it had to be quality. I was wrong.
The G410T, the G500 series (including the G500T), and all models in between all had issues. I know there are many of them flying in machines without issues, but when they do have issues (which is frequently), they cause problems.
Unless I'm mistaken, the 5000T is an old design. Since JR has had many issues with their gyros I would not use it in my machine. If you're not concerned about crashing you
could experiment with it but make sure you use a PCM receiver or a torroid coil (on the wires running from the gyro to the reciever) as the older JR gyros seem to introduce a significant amount of electronic noise that causes severe glitching.
I saw the glitching myself when I installed the G410T in my T-Rex 450SE with a standard
dual rate Hitec FM PPM receiver. When I spooled up the helicopter to hover rpm the servos would jump sporadically. I took the PPM receiver out and installed it in my Raptor
50 v2 (GY401 gyro) in exactly the same environment (to rule out the possibility of outside interference on the receiver) and there was no problem. I then put a Hitec PCM receiver into the T-Rex, spooled it up to hover speed and the servo glitching was gone.
This isn't an isolated experience. Do a search on other forums concerning JR gyros and you'll find there are numerous examples of guys that have ditched their JR gyros. Mine sits in my junk drawer, just in case my kids want to experiment with it. I'll never use it again as it's a waste of time.
I've seen the G410T on the market still, which annoys me because JR should have pulled it from the market a long time ago, knowing full well that the gyro has problems.
Don't get me wrong. JR has produced many innovative good products, but they have a poor track record when it comes to gyros. When they continue to sell crap like the G410T
they not serving the needs of their customers, just taking their money.
My two cents.
