Well I don't know about you guys but the past few days have been awful. When I stayed in Florida a couple of years ago I was in hurricane Katrina and they made a but fuss about it.

Well, in my opinion this is just as bad as it! But I supose we are more used to this bad weather over here.

This is the third day of this on going wind. The first day I thought 'Oh well give it a day or so and it will die down' But its gone even worse! My dad has park his car out on the road incase our tree falls into the drive lol.

Just wondering if it is like this with anyone else? It says on the internet its comeing from north east, so im guessing you are having the same thing Ian?

Well Jonny I dont know about this being as bad as Katrina, New Orleans had it's heart ripped out

Also the trailer parks in tornado alley seem to face weekly devastation, so I really think
they are more used to extreme weather than us:)

Trying to drive in Florida Ice is an experience as well, we rarely get anything like that here!

That said, the big Oak tree on corner of our drive keeps trying to lob broken branches at our cars and the trees round the field are having a rave all of their own,so it must be pretty bad.

Had a quick flight with Grant when it when it was this bad after his Robo chalenge event

and because we were in a big open field it really wasn't a problem....

All the best

For me, it can be dead calm one second and 20 mph gusts the next... Its something we have to live with down here living on a small island in the middle of the atlantic ocean... Whats even worse is we all live in valleys, so the wind can come in multiple directions at once... It cans start blowing from the north and make a full 360 degree turn as it funnels thru the mountains...

Its how i learnt to fly, starting with a small lil lama that people said could not handle the winds... so when it came to the belt it was even easier to fly in the wind.

Get your headspeed up and put on some depends and just go out there, watch trees from a distance and judge when somethign strong is coming and face the heli in that direction and keep it up high enough, very rarely does the heli dip down during a gust but sometimes it does so thats where the extra height will help you... but always face into the wind if your just hovering.

Cheers for the advice dierwolf.

Ye I suppose I was exaggerating a little bit and the hurricane did calm down by the time it got to Orlando but why do they build their houses out of wood!? Wood!

The best place to fly would be in a huge glass dome where it is warm with absolute no wind :D

Guessing coz they stupid :)

Frame and Stucco... we used to do that a million years ago on the island.. Now only Concrete will do as we get a hurricane almost every year..

I lived in florida for 16 years and made sure i stayed in the middle of the state :) lived in Boco and Coral Springs and drove everyday down to miami to work for the Architectural firm..... The building code is also a joke, i dont care how many rafter ties you put it wount hold LOL...

My father has a home in Port St. Lucy, believe its the only fully concrete block building there other than the mall LOL.

Nasty storms here last night.

Tornado tracked just north of us. Didn't see the tornado but did get a good look at the wall cloud before we headed to the basement.

Only good thing about it was my new roof stayed on!

Just got the electricity back an hour or so ago. Been picking up debris and cutting up branches all day. Not complaining though, much more fortunate than those north of us.

Very different welfare ethic over there Jonny, if you don't swim youll sink, the whole nation is built on the principal of being a winner through hard work.

Here we tend say if you don't want to work don't worry I'll pay for you!!!

I do think the positioning of some of the trailer parks is pretty criminal though.

Sorry Jonny: You seemed to be calling the American authorities stupid for not providing good quality housing for everyone....

In America things can get pretty tough if you wind up out of work. The state won't just pick you up and provide for you, like it does here

Thats part of the whole American 'work hard and enjoy the rewards' land of opportunity ethic.

It can be very hard on some, But to say it's stupid is not looking at the whole picture IMO

Over here while we support the vulnerable better, some areas have very high levels of people choosing to claim benifit rather than work, they tend to become unemployable and hopeless.

Or did I misunderstand you?

Ian;):YeaBaby: (off topic!!!)

Hi guys, I'm really tired, been up helping a couple buddies that got hit by the tornado a couple days ago. One home is completely distroyed, nothing left, the other is still standing but will probably have to be torn down.

Thanks for the kinds words Jonnie, I appreciate it. My home and family is fine. New garage door and a couple windows, nothing major.

As Ian mentioned, here in the US everyone is expected to work and take care of themselves. There is aid available to people who are too ill to work or handicapped so severly that hey can't be employed, but if you're able-bodied you're on your own.

There is help available, no one here will starve, and if you go to an emergency room you will be treated regardless of your ability to pay. But there is no government guarentee of having a place to live or transportation or anything other than food and emergency medical care.

The one exception is unmarried women with children who cannot work. They do recieve food, medical, a housing allowance and a monthly check. Most states have time limit (like 5 years) and then you have to find a job or lose the benefits.

There's a lot of controvery about it here as it practically guarentees that there is no man in the house and several generations of poor kids have grown up without fathers.

Back to helis - I tooka couple of my Lamas with me today when I went to help the guys. I figured it would be entertaining and take everyone's mind off the disaster for a little bit.

Of course now I have a box full of smashed Lama parts, but we had a lot of fun for a little while!

Gotta go to bed, long day tomorrow again...

Guessing coz they stupid :)

Firstly, Dierwolf mentioned them being stupid.

And when you say "You seemed to be calling the American authorities stupid for not providing good, quality houses for everyone", thats not what I ment.

I know that Americans like to work hard to get good things and that is obviously what everyone wants hence why its called The American dream and I couldn't agree more with that.

Anyway, just to clear things up. I wasn't saying that it was stupid that they don't have something like a NHS. What I was saying is that it is stupid having woodern houses because they break easily leaving people homeless.

It's nice to see you have a good spirit Wizard. I couldn't think of anything else that would make me more happy than messing around with the good ol' Lama's in a situation like that, all the best mate, your doing a good job:thumbup:.

Oh yea and Ian, my dad has bought a van off the bay and he has to go pick it up. And the van is situated in Leek. Thats quite near where you live right? I don't know why im telling you this because im not going with him to pick the van up but if I was I could have come to see you :P

Ok cool, just a bit of a misunderstanding then.

I won't be going with my dad because I'm doing my gcse's now. But my dad is doing the van up to be a campervan so if we ever go camping up that way then we'll see :D

Yeah and I guess you had a front line view of just how bad it can be:YeaBaby:

when I was there it seemed like every few days the weather channel was posting pictures of 'match wood'.

Sad to here how badly your neighbourhood was hit Jack, will the insurance cover it properly?

I dont know about up north but after Andrew hit you had to be pretty rich to be able to afford hurricane insurance..

Act of God and all that jazz.

Well keep away from the align packs, mine gets really badly out of balance. I have tested some of the cXharge batteries that Gerd sells and they actually seem pretty good - I ran those with new scorpion in and didnt notice much difference between that and my new thunder power extreme V2's. If you really want some awesome cells get the exreme V2 cells, They are currently on offer at Skyline models for £37. I will probably be heading there soon (you will want a better charger for those though).
