Over the weekend when I was flying my turbine I felt like it just wasn't right. I checked out the drive train and I noticed what I thought was some binding in the second stage gear box. I decided that I should tear it down to see what was going on. Well, I got it partially apart and then got stuck. I posted about the trick on getting the gear box apart.

So my problem has been solved, thanks to great service from both Bergen and Wren. On yesterday, a holiday I got a message from Chris Bergen to call him on his cell. Ten minutes later I have the trick to disassembling the gear box. I found the issue, the rear bearing had destroyed itself.

This morning I call Sara at Wren to get parts and she has me speak to Russel the Gear box mechanic. I explain the problem to him and he says that shouldn't happened and is sending me replacement parts free of charge. He also gave me tips on servicing the gear box.

This just goes to prove the value of service as I am now back on track solving my mechanical issue. This kind of service is very hard to find anywhere today, especially in the RC world. While I've been happy with my Raptor, I'm sure I couldn't get service like this from Thunder Tiger.

My thanks go out to Chris and Sara for great Customer Service.

"Over the weekend when I was flying my turbine I felt like it just wasn't right"

I was doing the same flying a Turbine Observer for a friend trying to get everything sorted out so its in good running condition and about 17 minutes into the flight as I was making a slow left turn downwind the turbine suddenly throttled up and quit about a second later. Luckily for me I reacted correctly right away and put the multi-thousand bird down unscathed. Talk about Whew!

As we walked up to it I realized that the cooldown function wasn't working (motor sounded like it was jamming) so we improvised with a big fan to cool it down right away as I was afraid it was going to catch fire or something with a little smoke coming out of the exhaust.

After it cooled all the way down we attempted a restart and the electric motor was humming and not able to turn the turbine over. Post flight inspection showed that the turbine itself is seized as well. This turbine hasn't been right from the start as it flamed out when I tried to slowly give it full power the first time I flew it and that resulted in a breath holding auto. It never gave the run times that are expected which would be in line with what other folks are saying as well.

In any case, its going to be heading back to Wren for inspection/service to see what is going on so I guess Sara will be getting a chance to shine once more with excellent customer service!

Customer service goes a long way when I spend my hard earned money on something and I run into trouble and need some help--I think you can ask anyone who has ever bought anything from Desert Aircraft-Bergen RC-and Duralite and I think they will give you the same answer. Great customer service. I've never had a turbine so I can't speak about Wren--not yet anyway ( I hope my wife's not looking )

Without Ron I wouldn't have had the courage to tear apart the turbine gear box.

He's also been great to talk to about what I've done and what I should have done.

He didn't send me free parts though:bawl OH wait a minute, he did straighten some shafts for me:noteworthy
