Hi guys
I currently have the 8 cell version of the Knight electric.
I'm also in the process of buying a Logo 600 3D :) which is going to run on 10 cell.
In order to use the same batteries on both, is it possible to run 10 cell on my current Knight setup? I know the speed control says 2-12 cell lipo, so that should be alright...just don't know about the motor.
Any advice would be appreciated.

even if the motor can take the extra cells the KV will be too high, more volts = more speed.
sure you could drop the throttle down but then efficiency wont be as good.
your best bet is to change the motor. you need somethng around 600kv. I will do some digging see what i can come up with.

If I were to run 10 cell batteries on this setup, what would happen?

You would overspeed the head and blow it up. Maybe fry the motor.

Hey Lith
Could I not keep the head speed down by playing with my throttle curve and the motor pinion?
Not trying to be funny here, just trying to save money on different battery setups.
Thanks for the help.

Yes you can.... but I'm not sure were to get pinions for the Knight 600E plus you would have to modify the frames so you can change pinion backlash. I wouldn't do it without getting a motor that's made for 10s. Maybe a NEU 1912H/1Y, Tango of some type, Actro, Plettenberg, etc etc etc. The Knight was designed to be a 8s bird and works VERY well as such.
You may want to make that Logo 6003D your getting a 8s V-bar setup. With Logos light weight I'm sure it will out perform about anything in it's class.

You're right, the whole modifying the frames and pinion thing is somewhere I don't feel like going!
So it's either a 10s motor or get the different packs...because I want the Logo to be 10s:YeaBaby:
But if I go for a new 10s motor, how do I know that the origional pinion will still be ok? Getting a new motor is still cheaper than buying a complete set of new packs.

You will need to use a head speed calculator like the one in this thread. http://www.helifreak.com/showthread.php?t=55471 Chances are you will need a different pinion because their are so many different motor kv ratings and efficiencies... and again I wouldn't go there, it's going to be a real headache imho.

Aaah...the voice of reason.
Thats why I love this place...great advice.
I would hate to even think how many bad decisions I would have made if it wasn't for this place.
Thanks again. Now to think of plan B!

what your aiming for is to get the same headspeed with the higher packvoltage. changing the pinion isnt an option so you need a motor with a lover KV.
after a little bit of digging around some friends the z power Z50A 600kv seems to be the one to have for running 10s.

I may wrong but i think the stock motor is 670kv so that sounds about right. Good info Ade_Law:thumbup:

As of the writing of this post I'd say the Flightpower 8s Evolite 4270.
I know there are others being tested that aren't out on the market yet.

Hey guys
Thanks again for all the help! Much appreciated.
I'm battling to find the Z power motor that was suggested, any other choices? What kv am I looking for in a 10S setup?
Does the Tango 45-07 have too high a kv rating?
Sorry....I'm a bit green with this motor stuff.:YeaBaby:

Have you heard anything about Flightpower 8s Evolite 5350 that some are using?
Thank you

Does anyone know the number of teeth on the main gear and on the pinion gear.
I've searched the manuals but can't find anything. Need it to try find the correct motor kv for the headspeed I'll be looking for.
Thanks
