New to hobby. I am currently flying a HBFP and hover pretty well tail in. I am starting to hover side-in and nose-in. I have been using a Phoenix sim with the HB 4ch radio. I am planning to get a T-rex, once I get more experience.

My question is, would it make sense for me to get a 6ch radio (DX-7) to use with the sim? Would the 6ch radio provide a better learning on Collective Pitch flying with the sim?

Thanks!

As long as the radio is capable of putting out linear signals, it should be just fine in the sim. I think the Phoenix models default to assuming fully linear inputs. If you feel you need expo, you can set up the model in the sim with expo. Are you having difficulties or just wondering?

I was really just wondering if the 6ch tx would better sim a CP heli. Again I am new to all this, and just thought I might be missing something using a 4ch tx.

Thanks!

I would think that the throttle channel of the radio could be used for collective and throttle in the sim. On a real CP heli, throttle and collective are both controlled in the radio by the same stick movement. The sim should be able to take the raw throttle channel input and use it as simulated stick movement to control throttle and collective in the same manner.
