While I was removing the clutch stack to change it out, the pinion came out of the support bearing. Do I need to send it to MA to have it pressed back in? Or can I just reasemble it and use locktite to keep it from spinning in the bearing. The fit is good from the od of the pinion to the ID of the bearing. Also I have some other clutch assembles that need repair, How much does MA charge for a new liner and bearings?

I use #680 Loctite retaining compound for that purpose. I can't help on the second part of your question because I do that myself.

Do you just by the liners and bearings. I thought it was a big deal for that stuff and it was wise just to send it to MA and let them work on it. Also are the bearings just locktited into the block on the clutch stack or are they a press fit to?

It's no big deal to do the heavy maintenance on a Fury. You do need a small press to do some of the work, but you can get one for less than fifty bucks.

A little heat with a heat gun and a little push with a press will remove the bearings. Before you remove the bearings make sure that they need replacing because it is possible that they can be damaged during removal. When replacing the bearings I use a little of the above mentioned 680 retaining compound.

Of course Miniature will do this for you and their prices are reasonable, but I'm the sort that likes to do everything myself. So far so good. :)

I used red on mine. Just put it back together and it will be straight. Were you getting any hits, I know I was. good luck.

my crash was the result of a faulty switch, I was just replacing the clutch with a new one and had some questions. Thanks for all the responces.

Hardest bearing to remove for me was the one for the tail drive in the one piece bearing block with tail drive bearing in it as well. Did not want to heat it up hot enough to hurt the MS bearing, but get it hot enough to remove the tail drive bearing. It is also hard to find something that will fit through the bearing block to tap out the tail drive bearing as the hole is very small and not much bigger than the bearing race.

There are a few issues here.

First the top bearing is just held into the upper bearing block with Green loctite. It is Loctite 690 or MA PN 4932 I believe. You need the thicker style cylindrical locking adhesive for bearing retention and it is good stuff to have around.

Second the reason the bearing came loose from the pinion's the same you need the new clutch liner. The smaller clutches use to slip a lot and create a lot of heat. This caused the loctite to fail on the bearing (yes they got very hot). The answer is the heavy duty clutch. I asked for a larger clutch and Tim designed one that works very well. It does not slip. The liner does not wear and no more bearing problems. The smaller clutch as great on the .61's but it was not up to spec for the .91. Another benefit of the larger clutch is much more power transfer.

Hope that helps some.

I will definatly get the heavy duty clutch kit then.

I don't know if it makes a difference, but when I loctite that pinion gear into the clutch stack, I put a clutch shaft in it to insure that it lines up perfectly. I don't know if it matters, but it seemed like a good idea to me!
