Well, luckily it wasn't too big of a cashectomy

Got me a Raptor 30 V2 with a Futaba radio fully RTF minus 12V battery and fuel
I got it "used" but not abused and have even seen it fly!

I've done the G4 simulator for a couple of months and can do "the basics"... hovering, rolls AND even managed to get inverted a couple of times :smokin:

NOW all I've gotta do is find me a Freakin mentor in the Atlanta area to take me out for an hour or so and get acquainted with how this bird really flies.

oooh yeah! got it floating nicely, tail started wagging, I was about about 8 ft off the ground, I let off the gas, went down tail first, then started rolling... not pretty

Dunno true extent of damage yet, the guy I bought it from is gonna help me rebuild it tomorrow as he's got plenty of spare parts

Suffice it to say... flybar, boom, rotors, tail rotor mechanism, tail rotors

hey... at least I lasted about 6 minutes floating around

So, the moral is, Make sure you know the orientation of your bird BEFORE letting off the gas

NEXT TIME I'll wear the training gear

Anyone got a spare set of daipers?

If you hovered for 6 min, stay away from the training gear. You are beyond those.

I don't know what you mean by "let off the gas". It's best to land the bird under power. I usually land in ST1 or ST2 and then go for HOLD to spin the rotors down. The bird is a lot more predictable under constant power.

"Letting off the gas" means pulling back on main throttle... works real well on the simulator... not so good in real life (ouch)

OK, here's the rundown on my first screwup...

Boom,
Flybar
main blades
tail pitch slider
tail blades
main belt

Oh well, that's just part of the learning curve. Did something similar myself. Heli ate itself and sent one of the lead weights on the wooden blades past my shoulder and through my shop window. :arggg: Quickly learned not to do that anymore. :(

I'm really looking forward to the next flight... just ordered alloy upgrades for tail slider from ebay

Anyone know who in the states keeps good "cheap" raptor supplies ?
