My brother did quite a bit of work trying to accomplish this. I think the roadblocks he encountered were price, weight and rudder mixing. He eventually gave up, but mostly because he was tired of not being able to fly his poon'copter (an endearing name we've given to our fleet of coax helis). :)

Nice vid. Say, can you give details. Motors, speed control, gyro, mods. also, price and where to get the parts.

Hey guys
Not to take anything away from this forum, but theres alot of good info on these brushless conversions over on RCgroups.http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/index.php
I`ve done a few of these conversions and in my opinion they are well worth the effort and the money. Some of the benefits are:
a: way more power, depending on the motor you use, probably 30 to 50%
b: longer flight times, again, 30 to 50%
c: more versatile, with the right ESC you can use 2s or 3s batteries(power on 3s is awesome)
d: motors and electronics run cooler, no more waiting for the motors to cool off, you can run batteries back to back till you run out of batteries.
e: carry more payload( video camers ect...
These are just a few of the things i like about the upgrade. The cost of parts can range anywhere from around 75 to 150$ depending on where you get the parts and how much stuff you may have in the junk box.
Heres a couple of threads that give details on how to do the conversion, links for the parts, info on what works well together, and info on troubleshooting. This first thread is a simple method using the stock Esky transmitter and rx and some of the other threads have info on tx mixing for computer radios.

These little heli`s are already alot of fun to fly, brushless is even more fun. A friend and i fly combat with them and it is ALOT of fun. Heres a couple of videos of a couple of our combat sessions.

LOL It is an absolute hoot.haha If you get tired of the ice and snow up there come on down to florida, we`d love to have 3 of em in the air at one time. We cant find anyone else crazy enough either. It looks pretty rough, but we actually dont tear up anymore stuff that we do normal flying, we fly em pretty hard anyway. Mostly blades, an occasional boom and bent shafts, but we straighten them and you can rebuild one in 30 min. These videos dont do the brushless conversion justice, we normally fly alot more agressively but we`re trying to keep em in the camera view, cant find a camera operator.

I was telling my wife about it and she just shook her head and gave me "the look".
I've asked a coupla of the guys, but so far no one is willing. :(
Thanks for the invite, but I try and avoid places that have reptiles that can eat me.
Also, as one of the last true Minnesota Swedes, I am not functional at anything over 80 F.
