i was flying my belt cp with 401 gyro & futaba 3154 tail servo.

the servo got real hot and cause power down.

i wonder does a regulator step down would arrest this problem?

Are you runnin g6 volts? If so, yes it will help. That servo will burn up and die on 6 volts as a tail servo.

I agree. I use that same servo on my T-Rex 450SE but use a step down for the servo. I use an align step down. It was cheap $7. Get one before your servo dies.

the 3154 is designed to work on 6 volts per futaba specs. with that said i melted one on my SE450 last week. It was on 5.1 volts but must have been bound up somehow in the MD500E fuselage tail. Ron

I also fly a mini titan se , the ESC is running 5 volt per manual.

would then i need to step it down further ?

Should be fine at 5 volts. That is what mine is running with the step down.
