Guys, has anyone requested the Hurricane 550 for inclusion as a model in the Phoenix flight simulator?
I have been keeping an eye on the new models being released. They have added the Trex500, Blade 400 & others lately but still no Hurricane. On there website they say to email them with your request for a new model, so thats what I did tonight. I'd encourage all Hurri flyers with Phoenix to send them an email requesting the Hurri 550. Apparently they will add a new model if they get enough requests.
Here is the email address: aircraft@phoenix-sim.com
Cheers

Wow, I heard back from the Phoenix team practically straight away! Here is there response:
Hi Graeme
Thank you for your model request. It has been forwarded to our modelling team and if demand is sufficient will be built, flight tested and released for download from our website.
So all you Phoenix owners, this is a call to arms! Get those requests happening!!
You never know, we might be able to fly our Hurricanes on the sim too!
Cheers

I sent the same request a couple of weeks ago asking if they needed photos for the model. I got this reply from them on the 12th
Hi James
This model is in our schedule for new releases, and we have had a full image-set submitted for modelling.
We are currently looking for possible flight beta testers, so if you have experience with this model and would be willing to perform some flight testing before release please let us know.
Best Regards

Ditto
I asked the Phoenix team about the Hurricane 550 first time in September last year, and then I've been emailing them about once a month. I was also the one who submitted the images, and it sounds like they will use them for the model. If so it's gonna be the Hurricane 550 Carbon with the white stock canopy, and white wood blades.

Put my request in as well; not 100% sure if I'll go with Phoenix since there's no distributors nor easy way to get it here in the US; but I do know that G4 is a SYSTEM HOG and I'm not impressed. It's cool and way over my head, hell ALL these sims are; but in comparison it sets the bar way too high to be useful to only those with the baddest home computer systems. I want to be able to take my copy on the road with my on my laptop to practice while on travel so...
What are your thoughts in comparison? I have Clearview now and it's a bit 'lacking' but of course a lot less expensive.
Happy Flying; simulated or otherwise! ;)

ClearView, FMS and G 3.5 run great on my old laptop but I have to turn off most of the options to get G 3.5 to fly smoothly.

If you want to take it on the road on a laptop then Phoenix is the standout leader. It needs far less oomph than G3/G4 and delivers as much or more. It is cheaper and unlike RF, upgrades, new flying fields and new models are all free.
Not sure why you are concerned about having a US dealer, you can buy it online directly from Phoenix and you will receive it in a few days. There are rarely warranty issues for a CD + USB cable and if there are, well again, it's just a few days difference.

http://heli-x.net/index_e.shtml it's free.. works great on a laptop.. just plug in your own USB controller (I use the cheap esky FMS controller) it also has the Hurricane 550 (Thanks Klaus) the new version that is due out SOMETIME will have training modes as well as internet multiplayer

Just order direct. You will have it in 3 days.
When Tower carried it, you could actually get it faster from Phoenix than from Tower.

I just contacted the Phoenix support team and this it what they said...
"We do have this model on our schedule, but because we are currently working on a major update to Phoenix we are not releasing any new models until this update has been released."

That sounds promising. I hope this new update improves a few of the glitches in the 105j update that I recently downloaded. The 104i version that comes on the cd works rock solid & runs well on my laptop. I downloaded the 105j update so that I could use multiplayer & it has many new features but, I am having some glitches.
I can always go back to 104i so I'm not worried & I would still highly recommend Phoenix.
Can't wait for the Hurri550 model to be released!
Cheers

I think that we are all waiting for the hurri to be released for phoenix...I've been waiting since I've owned it...
I must say that I love the sim...more than mosy people need as far as training goes and it definately doesn't need a monster computer to run it. My PC is almost 6 years old and it runs flawlessly on my system, altough when doing water flying my FPS drop a bit but if your not a big water flyer its a great sim.

I Have contacted Phoenix and asked them for a Hurri 550 build. Let me know when the Beta testing starts? Mean time I will just continue flying the Trex600 on Phoenix. Cheers Mate.

I also contacted Phoenix and they seem keen to get some additional photos of other "stock" canopies as in my email i said something like "I have the CF version which I believe has a different coloured canopy".
That begs the question, what photos did you send them Graeme?
What colour is your canopy in your photo submission? Red\Black fibreglass version ?
I want to see both the Red\Black (with decals) and the White\Black (with decals) versions of canopyies available in the drop down (like you can for some of the Trex and Blade 400).

First Email - looks like a scripted response to a model request
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hi DruiD
Thank you for requesting this model, it has been forwarded to our flight team.
Due to the large number of model requests we receive, we are currently only accepting model requests from customers who both own the model they are requesting and are willing to take the required digital photographs of their model for modelling purposes.
All models should be fitted with the stock canopy (if applicable), and images should ideally be taken outside in sunlight for best results.
Full instructions on the images required can be found here on our website: http://www.phoenix-sim.com/technical_modelImages.htm (http://www.phoenix-sim.com/technical_modelImages.htm)
Please contact us if you have any further questions or comments regarding this process.
---------------
2nd Email - after i replied that the above email didnt cut it and I wanted to discuss whether Phoneix needed any additional info regarding the existing Gaui Hurricane EP550 submision, eg Different canopy colour schemes.
---------------
Hi DruiD
We do have some photographs of this model, and the model is high up in our schedule for new releases after the BETA is complete.
In your email you mentioned alternative colour scheme canopies – do you own any of the additional canopy designs?
Best Regards

I might have to break down and buy Phoenix after the first of the year if they get a hurri model... right now I fly G4.. the only hurri model in there is based off a MX400... wtf?? how can they base it off a MUCH smaller heli and think it flies right... so I limit myself to flying gassers :D

In RF, you can edit/customize the Ion-X to handle exactly like the hurri. I practice with that on the sim and at the field, the transition is pretty smooth. It doesn't "look" like a hurri, but the flight characteristics after being edited are dead on, and that's what i was after when practicing.
