Thinking about buying a HBK2 as a second heli, and possibly a candidate for gutting and using the electronics for an EXI upgrade. Any of you belt owners have any comments on the HBK2? It's super cheap, 129 at xheli right now. Sounds like a deal to me. I need a backup bird for when I'm waiting on stupid parts!

edit: crap! motor is too small. I want to keep this project fairly inexpensive so what would you guys recommend for radio gear/motor/etc for an exi? Maybe I can find all the gear cheap and pop it in the exi frame.

With those requirements... don't. As you already noticed, there's practically nothing on a King II you would want to recycle on any better airframe. I spent way more than the cost of a RTF Belt CP to get mine to where I actually like to fly it.

For the cheapest electronics worth flying on, I might look at something like a Sonix 3500 kV (http://www.cnchelicopter.com/servlet/the-485/trex-3dx450-sonix-new/Detail) + Hobbywing 30A ESC (http://www.cnchelicopter.com/servlet/the-378/400-450-rc-helicopter/Detail) + SG90 servos (http://www.cnchelicopter.com/servlet/the-559/trex-eccpm-frame-3dx/Detail) + something that passes for a gyro if you don't look too closely (http://www.cnchelicopter.com/servlet/the-1014/xmhobbies-new-digital-gyro/Detail). Gets the job done, and relatively inexpensive at $109. Plus whatever receiver you need for your radio equipment, of course.
