Need advice and parts

Hi, I'm new to the hobby and am in need of some direction. The plastic gear that drives the tail has stripped and I would like to replace it with a metal one. The helicopter I have appears to be a Zoom 400/Walkera 35 model. Also, as I've run the motor up to speed I've been chasing some vibrations and after getting the blades tracked I've noticed that the main gear wobbles. Is this a common problem or is it acceptable? Should I remove it and attempt to straighten it?

Also, I would like to know a good source for parts for this helicopter that is preferrably based here in the US. I am in need of blades, the tail gear as well as possibly the main gear.

Well, during the time I had a Zoom, the thing I did to stop it eating through tailrotor gears at the speed of a computer technician eating pizza, was simple.

1) Install the bevelled gear t/r shaft and driveshaft through the boom.
2) Remove the bevelled gear from the tailrotor shaft, and reinstall the shaft so the gear is now reversed (i.e. the gripping on the same side as the rotor)
3) Move the motor pinion all the way down on the motor shaft, so it grips at the LOWER end of the crown gear.

This will usually do away with the vibrations that eat those plastic gears.

From your pictures, I see that you are using a blue anodized tailboom. Be adviced that there has been several occurences of the tail gearbox slipping on this, and twisting. f.y.i. you do NOT want a tailrotor pointing downwards midflight. Don't ask me how I know this... :?

Not sure about that maingear, mine was white. Is this perhaps a Walkera clone of the Zoom?

Anyways as for the "original white maingear", you can do a quick search on some forums regarding "white dust" on Zooms. This should answer the wobbling gear question :P

The tail gear problem will not go away no matter what you do. Metal ones seem to fail as often as plastic ones. Your Shogun has been replaced by the V2 Shogun which is a vastly improved helicopter with a belt driven tail rotor. Unless you want to spend $150 for a V2 shogun or $65 for a belt drive upgrade, I suggest that you get a supply of the plastic gears, be extremely vigilant as to the gear mesh and wear, and change the gear when any wear is evident. I bought the new V2 helicopter and it's very nice. The main gear wobble is common on the V1 Shogun and has been eliminated on the V2. The wobble isn't a real problem, but you may want to enlarge the slot in the frames that the gear runs through to keep the gear from rubbing on the frames. I tried the blue plastic gears and found them better than the stock gears but the only true solution for me was to upgrade to a belt driven tail rotor.

Thanks for all the replies, I'm completly new to the R/C world and I decided that I wanted to jump in with the helicopter (I think I'm nuts for picking the most difficult of the R/C's). Its good to find a forum where there's lots of helpful advice!

And svein, as for the computer tech remark... I'm a tech and I can eat pizza pretty fast so I resemble that remark!!
