Why ? Outside isn't fun ? I don't understand why there's so much vids of "indoor" flight (like livingroom, kitchem, office...). I don't want to wait for serious damages :arggg::confused::thinking

All I can say is n00bs for some reason feel it is easier than outside due to wind.... I have talked to several people that do this in garages etc and it's because the heli's of this "fly out of the box" don't do as well in wind and good 450 sized helis. N00bs also read this fact in posts on forums as well and thus I feel are afraid to go outside! Thus they do it indoors...
I don't condone it either but if my first heli was a Blade CX I am sure I would have done it inside! That trainer heli cant handle ANY wind... When people start getting into belt driven higher RPM helis I SURE HOPE they take it outside... The first time the tear up a piece of furniture I am sure the wife will be kicking some butt outside ;)
I am sure we will see a lot more of this kind of DUMB videos... I mean who really wants to watch some dude fly in his living room? Youtube opened the door to people showing some really stupid videos of stuff.... I just hope it doesn't set a precedence for HOW to do it right... We on Helifreak need to make sure people learn right!

If people want to show off their new heli to their friends or just want to tweak something on it, why go to the field when they could just do it in their living room?
Of course, the reason is that flying inside is dangerous. But the size of these little models means it is at least feasible to fly them inside, and that's what people do, especially people who have just picked up a new 'toy' and want to try it out.
I am no better... I was just in my backyard dialing in the engine on my new 600n (I had already trimmed it out and test flown it in a bigger area, though), and my backyard is not very big. I just don't want to drive for half an hour only to get to the field and find that there's a problem and my heli is not going to start.
I think the stupidest thing about the youtube videos is the number of bystanders... I am pretty confident in my ability to hover but no way would I have been hovering in the backyard if anyone had been around.

I hover in my living room, although no where near as unsafe as afore mentioned videos. My furniture is crappy and the only crashes that I have had were when I did some autos and the skids bounce the heli towards my metal frame couch. Not to mention I have way more space then those guys.
At least those videos were of 450 and under heli's. The ones with the nitro .30's and .50's are flat out retarded.:...:

I flew my 300 in the garage for about 3 flights. Then I opened the garage door and slowly flew it outside--it was great! So much more space!

I flew my Blade CP in my garage for hover testing and in the winter, we fly them in my friends shop. No more dangerous than flying outside close to you.

Dude, carbon shanks spinning at 3000+ rpms three feet from my face(or mom's china cabinet) is not my idea of fun.

Difficult one this I flew all my initial helis indoors first, albeit in a large communal garage area and only up to 450 size, I learnt all my orientation this way while the weather was terrible. Only damage was my helis hitting concrete walls...
I don't really see the difference between a guy only putting himself at risk flying in his living room alone or a pro doing an indoor exhibition with a 100 people sat right behind him. While problems may hit the inexperienced first, pros are not immune to mechanical failure and some of the stuff I have seen could do some real damage to spectators if anything went wrong.
Disaster can hit anywhere, any time, been honest how many of you could really say you have never spun a heli up indoors?
These videos find there way on to You Tube because a lot are featured in beginners forums, they are showing their mates what they have achieved. It just so happens that everyone else gets to see them and then slags them off, a bit unfair I think. There are far more idiots on You Tube on motorcycles and in cars putting themselves and the public at risk.
I'm not condoning reckless indoor flying, just don't think its 100% safe outdoors, take care and be careful at all times, even then accidents will still happen.

Yeah, tell me about it. My arm still smarts from getting hit the other day. Lots of lessons learned that evening. The only thing I have ever flown inside is my little Air Hogs havoc, and my Lama V3 coax. The coax I did in the basement, nothing down there to get damaged.
My wife would absolutely come unhinged if I tried to fly a bigger helicopter in the house. Those vids of 90's flying in the house are meant to show how theoretically great the pilot is, but just comes off as unwise behavior. "Wanna see something cool? Hold my beer and check this out".....

Hold my beer and check this out........
You know something interesting is gonna happen when you hear that classic line...

I have to wonder what the power company would have to say about that stunt. Complete stupidity aside, I wonder how much damage that machine could do to the lines?

I don't think that helicopter could even nick one of those lines. Still a bad idea though....

Answering only for myself - and as a n00b - I'll say I learned to fly indoors. I taped off a 10ft x 10ft area in my basement and started there. I learned by scooting my Blade400 around the box, and after around 10 packs eventually got to the point where I could hover (well, at least 'hover' inside the box). I did this for several reasons. First, I was trying to teach myself - there weren't any teachers in my area. Second, I could do this every night. Third - and this worked out well - I learned to really control the heli; no chasing it across the field (or having it chase me). Not a perfect scenario, but the best I could do. I agree however that flying in the living room or kitchen is just plain goofy.

Well, If people want to fly indoors, its their deal. No reason to get angry or make a fuss about it.... I am as guilty of this as anybody else b/c I fly/hover my 450 indoors every night. Why? To go back to basics. At 12:30 am is already too late to start the weed whacker outside so, like I said, I practice for 30 minutes to perfect my hovering skills, in every direction, every night, even tho I've spent the previous 1:30 of practice doing piro-circuits, stall turns with some up-right hurricanes and funnels outdoors. IMO, nothing is ever mastered and hovering is no exception to this rule.
You can fly wherever you want, its all in the skill of the pilot. I used to fly my 4#3 inside b/c I couldn't fly it outdoors and I used to crash it all the time, but my skill then was barely below the basic hovering skill level.

I fly in my barns and sometimes my garage when it is raining. However when i was younger i had a shogun i had just built. Wasnt very good with radio setup and reversed the throttle channel while the heli was initialized , you know the rest. She shot up straight into the ceiling and scared the crap out of me. Havent even attempted to fly indoors since.

I can't believe that fool in the first vid is flying in the house and his sister or girlfriend is sitting ten feet away shopping online with her back to the heli. These people are an accident waiting to happen. Then when it does happen, they give us cautious flyers and the hobby in general a bad name. Here in Miami (Florida) you can't find a public park or field where you're allowed any RC activity, even boats, no matter how small. I wonder why. It's because of immature, irresponsible IDIOTs like him who blew it for everyone else.
