Hi, I'm new to helis, and have no idea how people race or compete with them?
what are the different classes? and is there a MOM pylon racing class?

This is for AMA class Helicopter competition, aka "FAI" flying...somewhat like Pattern for helicopters.
There's 3D competition, but it's usually reserved for the best of the best 3D pilots (XFC, 3D Masters), and are invitational only. AMA class competition, and FAI F3C, are open contests that anyone can participate in, based on classes. At the lowest level, AMA Class I, you need to be competent in side-on hovering and basic forward flight aerobatics (loops, rolls, stall turns). Notice I didn't say EXPERT, just competent. The judges and the peers you compete against will determine if you're an expert in that class...in which case you'll be hounded to move up a class :)
Pylon racing is usually done for fun or as a gimmick at fun flies. It usually results in the demise of several birds.
