I have been into electric a while now, but have been thinking of getting another Nitro,

Can anyone tell/suggest what are the best electronics/components for the stratus - I am a futaba guy regarding servos, gyro, gov. Just thought I would check in regarding the electronics for Nitros., because I have been out of it for a while,

-Servos
-Motor
-Muffler/Pipe
-Gyro
-Governor
-Carb Smart? Is anyone using this??
-Main and tail Blades

Thanks in advance for any advice,
Jeff

- I used 9351 and now I have BLS451's installed. I havent tested them yet but in my raptor I was very impressed with them
- OS SZH, easy, cheap, works great.
- MP5 by CY. Did Curtis ever market something bad? His stuff always rocks.
- SolidG. See above comment.
- My carbsmart is waiting to be installed, however I need a new sensor because the wires ran next to the pipe on my raptor and melted.
- Vblades 710, but I think I'll switch over to 690 because of my lack of talent. I don't know if I have this on my Fury, but I've been boomstriking a lot lately with my raptor.

Would a 9650 work OK on throttle?
And I went to assemble my tank and ended up cutting the inside of the clunk tubing a bit. At 75mm the stock tubing and clunk was hitting the far end of the tank. Tough shaking wouldn't even make it move.

But now I'll have to order Hayes clunk line.

9650 should be fine but it is a midi servo so you'd have to make some sort of adaptor - I agree 75mm a bit too long for the clunk!

It might be overkill but I wasn't entirely happy with the hub dial in video although it followed conventional build and thread advice - basically I found following the advice in this thread (http://www.helifreak.com/showthread.php?t=9569) enabled a greater scope of dial in adjustment and in this video I show pulling the fan and more detail on the collett preparation and dial in:

Nice vids John. You say the purist would cringe at the toothbrush trick. Not me.
I have a piece of nylon that I use through the carb hole. I don't like the idea of the crank locker. I think it can put too much stress on the bushing in the rod. A flat spot on that bushing is not a good thing. Anyhoo, keep up the good work.

Thanks - I agree - a flat bit of nylon or Delrin would be ideal - it really was too much a PIA to keep on mounting and unmounting the engine for nut tightening then dialling then crank locking ........ and you also lost the precision and reproducibilty of the dial setup - I can't seen any harm in using a non-splinter non-metal locker - down the carb hole !

I'm getting my Maryland fan tomorrow, that should be the easiest installation of a cooling fan ever. I'll post some pics once I have it.

Also, do you use carb smart in addition to a govenor??

Its a heat shrink fan, which eliminates the collets that are originally used on MA machines. I'll post some pics when it arrives.

be looking for a NEW 90 size model from MA in the near future.
Couldn't look under the canopy, but there's a lot of innovative stuff on it.
Still a secret, so don't tell anyone. :bad

I really wouldn't worry - most if not all manufacturers have something ''special' in the pipeline and would wither on the vine if they didn't. Given the length of time of the Aurora debut I wouldn't hold your breath waiting for a new MA bird - the Stratus is still cutting edge technology and a very fine piece of engineering - it occured to me yesterday what was different about this build - NO CA !! - I have only encountered two bits of plastic so far (fan shroud and anti-rotation fitting) - I would have no regrets about spending my $$$ here - I decided to go with one rather than the Aurora as it could be in my hands in 2 weeks and had been throroughly beta tested :)

They better finish the MA450/Bandit/Fury/Whatitscalledtoday first.

Posted Final Frame Assembly 32MB (http://video.helifreak.com/?subpath=mercuriell&filename=Stratusfinalframe.wmv)- finishing off the left frame pointing out a few changes or instruction errors - fitting out right frame and then mating up with the left and lower frame assembly - really enjoyable build this :)

On MA's website they mention Bobby and Nick placing 2nd and 3rd on the XFC, but no mention that they flew a prototype. If its true that means its still in the very early stages of being developed. I bet they'll take at least untill 2009 before they release it. That means I'll be buying a Stratus conversion kit first.

I don't think it will take that long... Especially given that it placed high on it's first outing.

I have it on good authority that the trial machines at XFC were extremely early prototypes - only 2-3 weeks old and that it would be at least 9-12 months before we see any new 90 machine release from MA :)

Nice vids John,

Quick question

I have been scoping the Spectra G and it looks like it has some similarities with the Stratus, is this right or my wishful thinking?

Thanks

Robert
