You got a flying machine, not for pretty shiny crap. :)
Go fly the thing and have FUN!! Leave the shiny stuff for the align fanboi's.

Sell off the Align's like I did... scratch off the Align 700 and wait for the Odin 90.... And you'll be happy... I do still have my Rex 500 but only till the Atom come's out...

Mighty funny that a year ago most of you all were Align fanboi's and flying Aligns.....
Hey.. but who needs bling when all I do is crash anyways...

BTW.. just pulling your chain Wayne!

Well thats not that funny, nor special. Align is very dominating and in my country, i dont know a single person except me flying a Knight. So i guess its pretty hard to become fan of another brand if there is no real other :-). After taking the step in trying the Knight i guess most of us realized how well this cost efficient heli is and how bad Align compares to it.

I still dont need any upgrades since day 1. For 400$

Agreed. Go back one year and replace current "Knight3D" with "Trex" and current "Trex" with "Raptor (or 'CRaptor as they liked to say)" and the posts are the SAME. Haha.... they are all pretty good heli's. The only guy I know that was flying the Knights in 07 was Bro-vic.

I guess we all need our heroes. :)

EDIT: OK mods, please don't ban me from helifreak.... I was just havin a bit of fun this morning....

FWIW: the only bling I want or felt the need for was the FG painted canopy. Being about the same weight as the plastic milk jug one is a bonus, as I cut out the bottom for glow access, and cut a hole to access the switch, I actually am less than the plastic one by a few grams.
The only option I'd like to see is a steel washout base, the AL ones are a bit too fragile for my taste and heavy handedness. I keep a couple on hand as I've stripped one or three after incidents or tweaking the timing. I also use four grub screws for the same reason, just to keep me from feeling like it needs to be tighter. :)

Still waiting for my new K3D to show up myself (I'm totally stoked about it!!!), but wanted to know what everyone was running on their helis. Would JR 8717's be ok? I'm also planning on getting a Spartan gyro and maybe the 8900G for the tail, but beyond all that, I don't know much. The only real nitro heli experience I have was back in the day when Kyosho first came out with the Concept 46VR which has long since gone the way of the dodo!

Any help would be really really awesome!

You can use the 8717's, but you will have to remove a little material from the servo holes to fit them.
9252's are plenty fast for this machine, it has a LOT of cyclic authority!

I have The Z9000S and they are the same as the 8717. You dont need to remove material to fit them. Its not an Align :-) the only tricky one is the upper push pull servo. Instead of shaving stuff away, just remove the back of the servo, slide it into the frame and screw the backplate of the servo back in place.

Just make shure that the servos are properly positioned (Upper servo needs to be positioned inside the frame ) otherwise the push pull rods will not fit under canopy.

Will I need a lot of support equipment for running it? The plankers around here sure do carry a bunch of junk around with them. Is all that really needed? I watched the guys at the San Diego funfly a few weeks ago and they only seemed to carry a starter and glow ignitor. I'm assuming that's all I'll need as well.

The biggest things that I'm confused about are which flight packs I'll have to buy, governer, fuel type (although I'll probably run cool power 30%), regulators or switches, or anything else I might be missing or don't know about. I'm completely used to electrics, but I've never had to piece together a high performance setup, so I have a bit of learning to do. :arggg::arggg: :YeaBaby:

Well what you carry is your decision. When the heli is in complete order condition a starter is enough if you have onboard glow. But what you need is also Fuel and a fuel Pump.

I have a toolbox allways with me which is nothing special and i store there my radio, tools, starter and battery charger.

About what you need....hmmm...in the beginning:

Servos, Receiver, Regulator + 2s Batteries, Glowplug or Oboard Glowigniter.Gyro, A Starter, Fuelpump and Fuel. thats what you really need i guess. A Govener is not really needed as well as all the mixture bling. Ohh and dont forget the motor and the muffler :-)

I fly rolls, loops and flips and run 15%coolpower and never had a prob on boging etc so depending on your skillset 30% is just waste of money?

I am no pro so maybe the others can comment better.

Cool, well I've already got a head start on most of it, but I wasn't sure if there were any other crazy gizmos that people put on there that I'd never heard of. Thanks a million for the response! I supose now I just have to figure what parts I might want to use. I typically like getting the best stuff possible because I absolutely hate having to upgrade later. I like buying stuff once and unless I crash it, it better be something extremely new to tha market and have a substantial reason for getting it! (this is the exact reason why I'm tried of Align products in general!)

I take it I'll only need 18-20C batteries correct? If I just plan on getting the 8717's then they are each pulling 3A-4A ea. at full tilt so just how large of a pack would I need and about how many flights can I get out of them (AKA, will I then need to go buy 2 or 3 flight packs)? Could I just use the 11.1/2200's out of my 450 to power it seeing I'll be using a voltage regulator?

Sorry to run away from the original purpose of this thread, but I was having trouble getting any responses on my original post. Thanks again for the help!

Save some money and run 9252 servos.... They really work well on this heli due to the geometry in the head.

Actually I was thinking ahead to when I might be able to get a 90 and the faster transit times, so I don't think they would be a bad choice. Another point is that it's better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it! (aka there's no such thing as overkill!!! :Bang)

I'll consider them though. How about the 8900G/770 combo or maybe the Spartan gyro with the 8900? I have a spare 401 ready to go in it, but have had weird problems with the 401's and wanted to try different stuff. any opinions?

I run a JR770 & 9254 on mine and REALLY like it... looking for a 8900 to upgrade the tail servo. I have a Solid G & 9254 on my Logo 6003D and it works awesome as well.

Dump the 401... old technology and the Solid G & JR770 kick it's ass. I have a Spartan on order for my Outrage G5.

Honestly, after you fly this awhile you will not want to use used servos on a 90. Besides these fly so well that you might not fly the 90 as much anyway. Big difference in 6 flights/gallon for a 90 and 10 or so for the 50..
I use 9451's, metal gear and as fast as the 9252. Believe me, you won't need faster. :)
Be prepared to soil yourself if you use the T600N settings in the radio on the first flight, the K3D's are quick out of the box.
I use Duralite 4400 packs partly for balance, and mostly cuz the align 2n1s I had crapped out. I get tired of being at the field before I use up the battery.

Well I don't doubt how quick they are (K3D's), but probably not as fast as my T450 for sure! I guess we'll find out once I get her airborne. :)
