Soaked a piece in 30% nitro fuel overnight.

Results:

20.5mm before, 21.8mm after.

Approximate 6% increase in length.

Interesting, I did not think it would expand so much. I love Hayes line though. I always make sure to snip it shorter than needed. Good test.

I'll use that percentage as a guideline for cutting the line in my 600N's tank this evening. Then I'll let it sit in fuel overnight tonight and see what happens by morning.

Another result for everyone. I cut a piece of fuel tube to 81mm, soaked it for 12 hours in some fuel, and when I pulled it out to measure it, it was at 85mm. It seems the best way to get the length correct is to just pre-soak the fuel tube, and then cut it to length. I don't think there is a really good formula to come up with an exact amount of swelling since there seems to be a variety of fuels and they must all effect the tube differently.

I didn't pre-soak mine, relying on fiveoboy01's expansion coefficient. The normal length for the T-Rex 600N is 70mm. I cut it to 65.8mm and reversed the rubber stopper so that the nipple was farther forward in the tank and I still ended up having to cut 5mm or so off. This is with Cool Power 30%.

I soaked a 75mm piece for 3 days (traveling) and came back to find 81mm!!
Then it reshrunk in a matter of hours.

Did you soak it in Cialis? :YeaBaby:

Wow. That's weird. Mine is still the same length as it was when I removed it from the fuel, and installed into the tank. I can tell because my clunk still reaches the corner it did when I first installed it. Weird 600N tanks, I tell ya. I haven't fueled up the tank yet. It's still brand new.

I have no flight experience with this stuff, but if you keep your tank relatively low on fuel between flying days, I don't think the line will expand that much. (6mm in my case)

With 6-10 minute flights it doesn't seem like the tubing would time to expand enough to cause problems. Maybe I'm wrong. (most likely)

If people are refilling their tanks and going home, then you have problems with expansion.

Haha! Cialis is the new nitro alternative, you didn't know that?? :P
