Help me choose the best blades and pipe for my new bird... I want the best 3D performaqnce possible. Engine will be an OS 91.

Radix, Rotortech, V-Blades....... so many choices, and can't try them all!

Hard for me to say what is the best: from experience and the guys in my heli club I personally use the Rotortech 710's and the Hatori SB-19FH for YS 91sr on my Rap-90 3D. The guys flying Furrys and N9's also like the V-blades 690-720's, Rotortech, and Radix blades. If your a hard core 3D guy I would recommend staying in the 690-700 range for blades, easier to run at higher speeds and quicker respose to imputs. I personally like the Hatori pipes better than the MP5's just because the extend further past the landing gear and don't muck up my bird as much. Hope this helps.

Fly safe, fly hard...or go home. :D

Hatori sb-18 or if its a c-spec the 16. For the blades if you want a quick roll and 1900 hs go 690, I got radix. For more stable and running 1800 hs range 710's. If you got good collective management and want snap and fast 3d 690 v blades. V blades are not forgiving though and will bog it down fast.

Thank you!

I might get a good deal on Radix blades..... keep your suggestions coming!

Just another suggestion for you. If you are pretty proficient with your 90 you may want to consider puting a Kasama Head http://grandrc.com/inc/sdetail/128609 (http://grandrc.com/inc/sdetail/128609) on your bird. It is not cheap, but then again, the good stuff never is. It will make your Rap-90 feel like a a super sweet flying machine, and very, very 3D capable. Nice looking 90 you have. Good luck to you.
Fly safe, fly hard...or go home. :D

Thats one clean job on the can, looks like the windscreen was a factory cut. Kudos on that one.

I'm using the 710 Radix stick bangers.

About the Hatori SB-19FH pipe on the YS 91 Long stroke. Wayne Mann set my air / fuel mix and hated that pipe. He said it let the head cool off too much and could not get the mix set right. On the other hand he said for hardcore 3D guys the pipe should work fine. I do not know where or how he got it, but he sold me a different Hatori pipe (custom made so don't know the part number) and the engine was easy to tune after that. He said the pipe he sold me is not available to the general public but basically the baffles in the pipe are different. I'm terrible with tuning engines so I don't know the difference but I trust Wayne completely.

BTW I have a Hatori SB-19FH for sale, used only 2 flights, needs new "O" ring, $100. PM me.

What about a gryo for this heli? Is the Logictech 6100 and Logictech 6100 servo a good one?

I'll be using a JR 7703D gyro in the 90. Works great in my Raptor 50, altough I'm using it with a 9254 servo. I ordered a JR 8900G servo for the 90.

Thank you for the comments about my canopy, but I must admit that the picture hides the small imperfections ;)

Just out of curioscity, were you running factory settings on your 91sr, or did you try leaning the engine out?

We started with factory settings, and then started leaning it out. I don't have an ear for it but Wayne is so tuned to helis, he could even hear my tail was out of balance (it took one vary thin washer to balance it). I don't know if you know who Wayne Mann is but he flies helis for a living, one of the top FAI pilots. I swear, this guy is so good at setting up helis, his sounds like a Ferrari compared to our Pintos (just for a comparison) as it flies by.

I'll second the 770

Quick question..... Those who built the Raptor 90... Did you remove the washer on the crankshaft before installing the stock fan? The manual suggest that you should not remove it. But we all know that on a Raptor 50, this washer must be removed.... What about the Raptor 90? (OS 91 SZ-H).

Thank you!

I put the YS 91 Long stroke in my heli and if I remember right, it didn't come with a washer. I'm using the metal fan thoe.

Yes, remove the washer. Or else the top of your clutch with come into contact with the top of the clutch bell.

Usint Radix blades, you could anticipate fast cyclics for 3D with no bogging, and very good autorotation performance.

As others have mentioned, im also sure you will like them !

I finally got my muffler, a Hatori SB-18FH.

Can someone give me some advices about how to properly mount it? Bolt tightness (for the soft mount system), etc.....

Thank you!

Be real careful when you slide the muffler onto the header or you will mess up the "O" rings. When I put mine together I used WD40 and had a hard time at it. Later was told "spit" works fine to lube the rings for assembly.

was also warned not to torque down on the bolts or you will strip the thin metal in the header. If this happens you will have to get longer bolts and put a nut on the back side (or larger bolts and retap the header). If I remember right I just snugged them down with the allen wrench, then gave it just a little bit more, using locktite of course, have not had a problem sofar with it coming loose.

Thank you!

Tried the new muffler today, as well as the QUK auto-hub. Wow! With a bit of tuning, now the helicopter performs much better than with the Revolution muffler I borrowed while waiting for the Hatori. And that OS motor is quite sensitive to adjustments, lean it, no change, lean it, no change.... then lean it one more click and now it comes alive!

Still need a bit of fine tuning, but came back from the field with a large smile today.
