Hiy,

I just bought a E-sky Belt CP. I Crashed it very badly the first day but now it is fine again, almost atleast. I just did a few test flights with my heli but there seem to be a problem with the ESC or something. After 1 min of flying there is a very sudden drop in rpm. I highly doubt that this is because the battery is low, for 2 reasons. After it happens i have tested the voltage of the batter (3S lipo) and it is 12,..v. So I think The battery is still full, the battery came straigh from the charger. Secondly i dont think something like this is programmed cause when ur flying a litle high u have a guaranteed crash when it happens.
Doed anyone know what the problem is and how to solve it?
Thanx in advance,
Sander

Hi Sander,

Firstly, some more information please....

When you crashed it what did you replace to get it going again?
Have you balanced and tracked your blades?
Does the ESC feel very hot when you land after the dip in power?

It could be the ESC, but it could also be the setup is out which can put a lot of strain on the motor and therefore the ESC.

Cheers

Gerd

Hiy,

When I crashed the following was broken  :
-Main Blades
-Tail boom
-Feathering shaft
-Fly Bar
-1 servo
-Tail fin
-Main gear
-Main shaft
So it was quite a lot. I replaced everything with new stuff and everything is set okay again. Blades are balanced and there is no tracking. The belt tension is also okay, I think. I have lubricated everything and now it runs more freely that it did before. So i don't think it is drag that is the problem. The ESC indeed was very hot after a drop. I just replaced the heatsink from the ESC with a larger one and i was able to fly 8 min in one go. I guess that the 25A that the ESC can do is just on the edge. I hope that my new, larger, heatsink can do the job. I don't feel like buying a new ESC after this expensive crash
Is it indeed possible that the new heatsink does the job? or was I just lucky my last flight? I must note that with the new heatsink the ESC stayes relatively cold.
thnx,
Sander

Okay the ESC is now compleetly fracked :bomb::bomb::bomb:
I was nicely hovering when it decided to go full rpm, not so bad ud say, but I was indoors........yeah against the roof. So time to order new parts. I love this hobby.
Anyway what ESC shal I get? I was thinking about the Emax 35A (http://www.johnhobby.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=551)
Any good?

I have heard of a lot of cases when the throttle goes to full when inside. Maybe it is interfering with something? But on the other hand if that had happened outside you might not have seen it ever again so your lucky I guess :d

There are a few people that have upgraded their ECSs. I havn't so I cannot help you there but there will most definatly be someone here that will help you.

Did your heli piro, with the sudden loss of power? Fortunately I have been test hovering very low when this happens. It seems like the motor hiccups. I'm guessing its the ESC could it be anything else?

No, it didn't pyro much. Most likely because I have a HH gyro. Also because the first times it happend i was flying very low so i couldn't really notice is and the last time the hitting of the roof so everthing was scattered all over the place.

A good upgrade would be a CC 35A or is it 30A but many have upgraded there esc to CC after a esc burnout

I'm sorry but what so you mean with CC? :o

It looks really nice but it is out of my budget. Is there something wrong with the cheaper ESC such as the EMAX 35A (http://www.johnhobby.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=551)?

Seems ok but I have no experience with emax.I think a good esc is what you believe it to be within your budget

Hiy everyone,
I just uploaded a movie on youtube where you can see how the ESC malfunctions. If you have this problem, replace the ESC ASAP

I got JohnHobby.com to give me a new ESC, a better one, free of charge. Very good service!

I also have a question about my main blades. One of the blades is lightly damaged. Is it possible that I tapes this and then rebalance the blades or do I need to put a new set of blades on?

Fairly obviously, the higher your head speed the more effect any out of balance will have. Having said that, if you tape it up re - cg and - balance them, they should be ok. Proof will be in the pudding.

Ah, I see the problem, your garage is far too neat. Tidy places attract gremlins.

Well I think a tidy work shop is the symptom of a sick mind. Don't you agree Erwin:YeaBaby::YeaBaby:

If thats an Esky blade the covering will probably all strip off during flight now so I would seal the tear with a dab of cyano:)

Yeah its an esky blade, I idd was planing to glue it with something like that and then maybe a little thin tape over it to make sure it its smooth.

Being an Esky blade, the covering will strip off no matter what you do... But a drop of CA and/or a strip of tracking tape will hold it at the tear. Any more damage than that, and I'd recommend changing them - I have had a couple of those embedded weights zing past my ear, and it doesn't help your concentration... With these blades, what seems like a minor bump on the outside can do funny things to their structural integrity.

When they do go, try replacing them with align pro woodies.
They cost about the same, fly 10 times better and are much much stronger.
The only thing is you need to use a washer or something as a spacer in the Esky blade holder because its wider than the Align one.

Does any one know what size spacer you need ??

2 mm total thickness for the plastic blade holders. I used two 1x3x8 mm nylon washers per blade grip. And you have to sand down the blade root a bit so it won't bind on the feathering shaft.

Align 315 or 325 Pro woodies are definitely the way to go. Never waste money on Esky blades.
